Just added a 2nd 240GB SSD about 2 hours ago. I also noticed that they had the boot drive going into SATA1 instead of SATA0, so I swapped the mobo connectors. While I was in there, also I did a quick vacuum of the components (there was a little dust accumulation on the fan blades) and around the underside of the keybed. A quick format and I was ready to rock.

Nice one, that's a mighty fine upgrade.
Congratulations.

@James:
I installed the second ssd - a 120 GB OCZ VTX3 - last evening, following your instructions in the video flawlessly.
Formatted the new drive, everything works fine. :D
Thank you for your time to create the video and patiently answer all questions.

Right now my Kronos is an Kronos X!!!

My problem still is RAM space, though I have 4 GB RAM installed, since I´m using Legendary Strings and they occupy a huge amount of RAM. After loading 2 *_user.ksc´s I couldn´t load another sf2-file. Have to find out, how to handle this...

Congratulations Michael.
Welcome to the dual SSD club.
My problem still is RAM space, though I have 4 GB RAM installed, since I´m using Legendary Strings and they occupy a huge amount of RAM. After loading 2 *_user.ksc´s I couldn´t load another sf2-file. Have to find out, how to handle this...
Yeah, that strings library is by far the heaviest on memory, but by far a MUST have item.

I find that moving away from the preload.ksc and using a combination of *.ksc files gives me plenty memory. Plus I have it done in a way that allows me access to all EXs 3 which is not part of the Preload.KSC

With everything loaded as I want, plus KRONOS ASSAULT, I still have 170MB of RAM free for streaming. So that's still a lot of memory when you consider you can pretty much expect to stream 8 to 10 times more data than RAM needed.

Regards
Sharp.

Yeah, I guess the main problem is the preload.ksc. But I can´t oversee yet, how to handle this, what part of it is dispensable and how to do it. I also need them EXs3´s, cause I do a lot of funky horn sections on the Kronos . What´s been your workaround here, as you have "thinned" the preload.ksc?

I've installed my Crucial SSD 128 GIGs tonight. The original drive was in Sata 1, so had to put that in 0, with the new drive in 1. It (then) booted up, and all was ok, so i went to disk mode, it said "unrecognized disk", so formatted it. Now then - it "seems" fine (118 Gigs free), and i've saved a file or two to it, but will I have to do extensive disk work/sampling etc to verify its ok?,

Hi DoubleM.
I'm in the studio all day tomorrow so I'll make note of exactly what combination of KSC's I'm using and I'll let you know.

EXs 3 and 11 are certainly being loaded fully. It's things like the Jazz drums and the OASYS EXs 2 expansion I'm probably skipping.

I also don't load the Preload.KSC at all. There's no need at all when loading the others in combination.

Sharp.

OK. Had a prob with "Auto load" off the second drive, as the KRONOS wouldn't start up when it Reached "now loading Strings KSC etc (off drive 2). So i dissconected the secong drive (couldn't think of another way), and starting as normal from the KRONOS default drive, and unselected Auto load etc. Not sure whether this is normal or not??? read somewhere with people having a "problem" with this.

Thanks Sharp, at least its not "A" problem (as such)

Thanks much for your Video. I copied it to the letter. Found screwing the hard drive to the Chasis the hardest bit! - very fiddley with screw likely to drop anywhere! Cable (SATA was about 18 inch).

AKAI Files (GARRITON ORCHESTRAL STRINGS 32 Meg) load in just 2 secs anyway (reminds me of your LIONSTRACS demo you posted a while ago - (loading samples).

Only had it 8 days and know little about it yet.

Job well done.
Thanks for verifying the SATA cable length. I had a feeling it was about that length.

Yeah, it's fast. Having streaming really changes things too.

Installed a Crucial m4 SSD 128 and works fine. The 1GB memory however did not. I bought a Corsair DDR2 800Mhz 2GB memory. I realize it can only see an extra 1GB but it was all the store had. Someone else said they put 2x2GB in as a matched pair and it worked.

In my case the boot-up failed. I removed it and the boot was fine. I moved it to the first slot leaving the original one out (so still 2GB) and it failed. It doesn't seem to like this memory.

The timing is 5-5-5-18 CM2X2048-6400C5

Ouch, I guess not.
Best to go with another brand in this case.
