Dan,
I really appreciate your efforts in this matter. This issue makes it difficult to use the Kronos 88 as a controller to sequence parts using other synths, modules, VI's, as well as the "brick wall" effect, etc.
If it's a problem that can be corrected that will please everyone facing this issue. If your test reveals full access to the 127 velocities on an 88 key then something is wrong with my unit (and it appears to be a problem with several other units as well).
Thank you for helping me/us.

I think that we should create a poll where the community can test their Kronos in order to see how many are struggling to get the 127 velocity level.
This way we can all have a better view of this issue, and we can decide if this is something affecting everyone of us or it's just a "bad luck".
In order for the survey to be valuable, we need to specify which keybed (61 or 73/88 ) as well as which velocity curve to use. Maybe we'll need a couple of polls to check several velocity curves.

We've now tested and confirmed that the KRONOS 88 reaches velocity = 127. You have to play hard.
Keybeds are calibrated at the factory. I don't think they should go out of calibration very quickly if ever; I've never recalibrated my OASYS, for instance, and I've had it for about 7 years. However, they can be recalibrated by a service tech if necessary.
If anyone is having problems with the calibration, I wonder if they might possibly have replaced the internal SSD? The calibration data is stored on the drive, and if the drive is replaced, the calibration data will be gone. If an authorized tech replaced the drive, they would need to go through the calibration procedure after the new drive was in place.

Dan,
Thank you very much for getting back to us so quickly.
My Kronos is just a stock unit. I haven't done any updates or anything so I'll be taking mine to the service center in a couple of weeks.
Once again, thank you for asisting us.

i think korg should make a user calibration procedure for the keybed... when i've playing hard, i only reach 115-120 (on vel curve 9)
i'll try it on vel curve 4...

I had noticed this same thing awhile back. I just assumed thats how it was supposed to be. I have an 88 and and can get it to 127. However, I have to hit it really hard on a single key. The setting doesn't matter, same ish.
Not a huge deal for me, but still.

Hi all,
same for me !
I own a K73 and I have to hit hard the key but I am able to reach the velocity 127.
The range 115-120 seems to be achivable without too much hard pressure.
My K73 has not been modified yet (no extra memory).
I hope this will help.
Cheers.

Well, I took my k88 to the service center on Monday to have the velocity problem addressed. I talked to them today and was told they had a call into Korg but korg hadn't gotten back with them so it's just sitting on the work bench.
Hopefully there is some calibration that can be done or version 2 will provide a remedy.

My kronos 73 had the keybed replaced, but as far as i know, the harddrive isnt replaced, because my original patches were still there.. With velocitycurve 4 i cannot reach 120-127, even if i play extremely hard.. on curve 9 i can reach almost 125 if i slam extremely hard on the keys (almost afraid of breaking it)..
I had this same problem with my M3-73.
I've already contacted the korg distributer, but he is on vacation. Are you sure they can recalibrate it for me, and fix the problem?
Thank you in advance.

I don't think they will be able to make any appreciable changes as I think it is a design flaw rather than something an adjustment will fix. I took it in with the hope that I'm wrong but when korg is slow in responding to a tech center one has to wonder if this is just going to be more denial like the note off problem.

I also suspect it's a design flaw, because my korg m3-73 had the same problem.
just as the double strike problem. Someone from korg told me all the korg 73/88 suffer from it, but that only a small percentage of people are bothered by the problem.
With the velocity range i think it's the same.. a friend of mine also has the velocity problem, but he never noticed it, and for that he doesn't cares.. my guess is that all the kronosses have the velocity issue, but that only a small amount of people notice it and are botherd by it.
For me the velocity problem is a BIG problem.. especially after everything i went through.. i bought it in october 2011, put all my money savings in the instrument.. couldn't use it for 9 months because ia had to wait for a new keybed. now finally the keybed is replaced, i still cannot use it because the velocity range is way too limited..
My dealer wont take the kronos back anymore..
I'm getting to the point that i am considering of taking legal action. because korg is unreachable, and teh korg distributor in holland arent taking it serious. reselling is also not possible or i have tot ake a huge loss..
i am very disappointed in the way all this is handled.
Unless Korg doesn't compensate me in some way or solve my problems, I feel like i have no other choice than legal action, and that really saddens me.. i really regret..
cheers

I have a new 88 here which us meant to have the new keybed, I can get to 110 with normal playing. 118 if I really smash a key so hard you would not want to do it that often!
So not full range

I have about the same problem with 115 being the highest velocity I can reach using abnormal pressure. I was told this isn't normal so I took it to the service center. If this is normal I would rather Korg just explain why and move on. I've had nothing but problems with the keybed and unless the x series uses a different keybed I'm afraid these problems will continue.

Thank you for testing it! according to dan, your kronos is defect and should be recalibrated by a korg tech.
I have the korg almost 10 months and still i havent been able to use it.. paid 3400 euro for a rompler!
the korg tech guy from holland is on holiday now.. the story continues..

Someone asked me to do a test for the Kronos 61 so I did.
With velocity curve 3, I reached 124 max, however I didn't want to make too much excessive noise and the chance of a key break. I think 127 still can be reached but I'm satisfied with 124 (close enough to perfect for me).
However, when normally playing I don't go above 115-120.
