Click Keys, Cut-off keys - replace contact strips?

Post by alexbbrown »

Hi

I just got a used KORG SV-188 with the burgundy side panels.

I get key cut-off occasionally when playing quietly, and some keys make a click/squish sound when played (this is mechanical noise from the keyboard hardware).

I have seen these problems elsewhere, and one suggestion was to replace the contact pads with the blue ones.

Is this a user operation? The service manual neither mentions nor shows photos of the location of this part, nor how to replace it.

Would love to know!

Well I opened it up, but couldn't work out how to lift the keybed out. From above the contacts are not visible, so I surmise they must be attached to the bottom of the orange circuit board.

I also have oddly spaced keys, and there's no visible reason for this inside the unit; there must be some strange stresses arranging them like that.

There's no visible reason (from above) that keys should be clicky - nothing visibly jammed or broken.

It's worth noting that the clicky keys include ALL of the C keys but not the E keys, so it may have something to do with the displacement.

I wish someone knew what the problem was, if it's just a matter of tightening or loosening some nut, then I could probably do it myself.

There is a service manual available within files area of the SV-1 group on facebook. I think you'll need to join the group to get access. That will give instructions on how to remove the keybed.

Thanks, I know about the manual, but it's insufficiently clear for an inexperienced person.

I've now found a good text description of how to disassemble, including details on the part I found difficult - getting the keybed out.
