Kronos with Logic Pro X

Post by ahutnick »

I tried using my Kronos 2 as an USB audio MIDI interface with Logic ProX and I am noticing that for some reason one key on my Kronos A above middle C won't trigger any of the software instruments in Logic whether it's the included or third party ones I have. All of the other notes trigger fine with no tuning issues.I tried another USB cable with no difference. This issue does not exist when using my Kronos with Mainstage 3. My OSX version is 10.9.5 and I am using a Macbook Pro. Thanks!

Do you have a midi fx module loaded in logic that's filtering specific midi notes?
and is inadvertantly set to a narrow range....one note.
Doesn't sound like a Kronos issue to me, rather some form of filtering in the chain in logic.

No I don't have any midi fx loaded into Logic. I did try connecting the MIDI out of my Kronos into my Presonus Firestudio Project and the problem with that one note went away. I also tried connecting my Kurzweil Forte using USB and no note issues. Not sure what it could be but I appreciate your suggestion. I can always use the Presonus as an interface but I figure it would be nice to be able to use the Kronos as an interface.

Hmmmm, Do you have a midi to usb cable, trying the Kronos midi into Logic? and are you able to see the notes display up in the key display next to the time signature, even though the plugins don't sound?
A bit of extra diagnostics seem to be required here. Process of elimination to narrow it down by the looks of it.
What about in Garageband? Is that the same?

I am just using a normal USB cable connecting from the Kronos USB B port to the USB port on my Macbook Pro. Yes the notes show except when I play that one note. Garageband works fine all the notes play. Really appreciate helping me trying to troubleshoot this issue!

Well, if the usb into garageband works fine on the same mac, then that has proved from the Kronos to the mac is ok, which means there may be some setting in Logic which is affecting it. Sorry for the confusion, but earlier I meant you could try a midi cable (from the kronos) to a usb adapter, into the mac, just to prove whether it was a kronos usb issue. However, it your usb works fine into garageband then no need to try that.
I really think you should look closer at Logic. I did have an issue myself at one stage, and nothing to do with the kronos, but I had a Tone 2 plugin which appeared in Garageband, but I couldn't get it to load in Logic. I gave up on it in the end

Thanks again for your efforts and I will take a closer look at Logic and see if I can figure this one out.

in Logic you have to open the track properties. (in the left panel)
There are different properties such as midi channel, transpose velocity etc..
Can you check the property note limit (something like that) : by default it is C-2 G8 which define the keyboard range that can trigger midi events.

It is set to default C2 to C7. Being that I was able to use my Kurzweil Forte as a USB controller with Logic Pro X with out having that one note missing I did not think that was the problem but good idea to check though. Thanks!
