No way it's going to be twice as fast, where did you see that?

Looks quite interesting though, I need a new Win 10 laptop so this might be the one....

Looks very interesting. I'd be more interested in the i7 512gb, 16meg version. But that kicks the price up to $2600. Of course have to add the docking station, an external drive and dual monitors and OMG.

But they do claim that it is twice the performance of a MacBook Pro. For that price it better be.

The new SurfacePro 4 and Surface Book look very impressive.
I'm looking forward to upcoming tests, and how much (or little) noise the new 'hybrid cooling' system generates.

I was thinking that with the increased power of tablets how well this lends itself as the basis for a docking station controller featuring rotary encoders, knobs and faders combined with the option to simply insert your tablet and voila, you have your own customized hardware kind of workstation offering tactile as well as touch based control.
Maybe an idea for Akai to take the Advance concept a step further in a different direction?

I think if you need powerful computer get workstation. If you need portable solution get tablet.

P.s. I think comfortable chair, comfortable table with keyboard and mouce and big monitor is better then siting with notebook with small screen.
Also desktop computers usualy have better hardwear and are less noisy.

Thanks, looks like they are including the GPU in the calculation. Lies, damn lies and statistics :)

Both (SurfacePro/Book) look very, very good indeed.

I have an iPad 2, but Surface will be my next tablet for sure.

While the iPad has a few nice standalone music apps, you can't run full programs or do proper business on it, it's a glorified media device, fairly useless in many aspects. It doesn't bridge the gap between mobile and desktops, and it has made a straitjacket for itself in that aspect by focussing on mobile-only apps, rather than merging mobile+desktop usage.

The Surface, on the other hand, aims right in the middle. Best of both. It's what a professional mobile device should be.

Max of 16GB - I'm afraid that won't cut it form 2015 onwards in audio / music circles.

My MBP, bought in 2011, has 16GB RAM! I have never maxed out the quad iCore 7 computing power - even with over 100 tracks and plugins / effects on most - it's RAM is the bottle neck, every time.

So it doesn't matter if this has a fast CPU wise - RAM is the issue. It should be starting with 32GB, minimum.

The small form factor that it is won't take 32gb RAM as motherboard manufacturers cannot get one with a small footprint to take 32gb at the moment due to bandwith constraints. hence the only laptops I;ve seen that can take 32gb are Dell Precision laptops (for CAD design) but they are much larger in size. For me if you need the power as someone says a normal PC is best, if you need portability then maybe look at the Dell Precision Notebooks.

Also Mac OSX will never be touch capable whilst OSX is based on a variant of Linux, it would need to change the way that the OS is written completely which would make most if not all current applications incompatible
