Electribe 2 song mode work around?

Post by thegophoto »

Just got an electribe 2 a couple days ago. I love the sounds and sequencer on it. I was going to use this as a live drum machine with a couple of synth parts sequenced while I played parts on my other keyboard in a live band setting. I was very disappointed to learn that korg had removed the song mode from the electribe. I know I can set up a pattern set and press buttons to change patterns, but has anyone found a work around for this yet? I know the patterns can change via midi program change parameters, but is there a piece of external gear that could automate this? I bought the electribe to get away from using a daw or computer sequencer live. I tried my old es1 via midi in song mode and had no luck changing the patterns. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Check the global midi channel on the e2s.. Then make sure the es1 is sending program changes on the same channel.

I have no problem manually switching the patterns from the es1, just when I put the es1 into song mode, it doesn't register the program change in song mode. All global midi channels are on 1. Thanks for the tip though!

If you've got an iPhone check out the midi toolbox app.
I've used an old 3G and a midi mobilizer I with that app to successfully record and playback 'songs' on the e2s.

Actually the IRig midi phone adaptor/app lets me record songs into it too. This opens up some options here. Really didn't want to have to use a computer live, but I can manage with an os device. Thank you very much!

One cool thing when doing this is you can create midi files with rhythyms that go beyond the 16th note resolution of the internal sequencer. Triplets and 32nd notes etc. and even tempo changes etc.

I still haven't gone as deep as I want with this method, but I can see it being really useful for putting together a live set where you want to play another instrument too!

Thanks for the helpful comment, was just wondering if anyone had found a useful workaround for a way to chain patterns together.

Have you tried Event Recorder? I checked that out a few weeks ago and is probably the closest thing to song mode the new electribes have.

I just use a sony portable recorder, recorded a shitload of songs already.
Just ordered a dirt cheap recorder of ebay, like 12 £ , that supposedly records wav. Cant wait to try it out.
Would recommend this to anyone, its greatto have a good wav recording to reasses youre tunes, and its no hassle to carry around alongside the e2. Make a quick beat, record it, listen back to it in no time.

Not that it's going to work for everyone, but I ended up using my elektron analog 4 to send pattern changes to the electribe. Works well and get the great drum sounds of the electribe and the tight sequencer and analog sounds from the a4. Thanks for all the help guys.
