all EMX1 album?

Post by Flaco »

Hey all,

Does anyone know of an album that was produced as a primarily EMX1 project?

(There are a lot of great EMX 1 producers of various genres, but most of their work consists of single tracks.)

Also, if anyone has any EMX1 producers that they recommend I'd love to hear them, especially if there's quality video/audio available.

Cheers!

This album by Mistabishi is created using the EMX1:

You can even download the .emx file that has all the patterns.

Mistabishi does amazing work with the EMX-1.

I'd be curious to know what you think of some of my tracks. They are all live recordings, one take no edits, and not really finished tracks, but I'd still be curious what you think

The majority are all EMX-1, but gear is noted in the descriptions.

I head all your EMX tracks and I really enjoyed them.

Let me guess, you're into jam bands?

Jam bands? Not really. My wife likes Phish and the Greatful Dead, but I'm a die hard electronic music guy. Mostly I'm into drum n bass and breaks and break ore and UK Hardcore and grabber., and 80 s/90's industrial and synth pop......and old funk records.

But as to making tracks it's whatever comes out...which recently has been well what's on my soundcloud. Used to make lots of trashy break ore and drum n bass on my ES1 back in the day though.

Thanks for listening!

Though I did go see Big Gigantic at red rocks last summer, and it was awesome. I guess you could consider them something of an electronic jam band.....

Oh interesting, one of your tracks that I enjoyed was a 12 minute jam on a riff (actually there was soloing on a few of the beats right?). I thought maybe all that soloing was due to an affinity for jam bands. I do like them and I have plans to do similar things with my own beats as you did with all that soloing.

Just curious, did you solo using the slider and setting it to a particular scale?

I use the slider in reverse mode, which makes the ribbon control the note and the slider is gate time, which I like to push all the way up sometimes. I usually record in the main riffs without the ARP(either by MIDI keyboard or just playing the step keys), then try to find ARP slider settings that "work" ie, play most of the same notes as in the programmed part.

Those recordings are all live "Jams" and it's quite easy to get carried away in the solos and then it's 10 minutes long.....I have to deliberately practice not going on too long....That said I do like to retain some freedom in the live performance, so the songs have the same basic parts but not always performed the same way.

Producing an all EMX-1 album

Post by oninterrupt »

The EMX and ESX are my primary tools for music production (I also use an MS20 Mini and Roland VK-8m, but I only use hardware as it's more enjoyable for me). I just released my first album and admittedly didn't really know what I was doing when recording and mixing. While the quality isn't terrible it isn't great either, and I'd really like to improve on it when I record my next song. I've been searching around looking for advice from folks who only record hardware synths and found this thread. I've read tips on how to get a decent mix within the EMX itself, but I'd love to hear from anyone about how they go about recording the EMX (with the EMX's built-in effects) to their DAW, and how they mix from there. Hopefully this isn't too vague a question. If you want to get an idea of the quality you can listen here: https://soundcloud.com/oninterrupt-1/se ... ft-out-now
Thanks!
