there is no microphone on the unit. you have to plug one into the mic input, then flip the switch to "mic"...make sure your input level is up...and the mic only transmits sound when you have a vocoder patch selected and you are pushing the pad to apply the affect.

it's all in the manual

IIRC the ko does have a Mic. I remember droppin voice to patterns .

Update ,just read new post.
You could try inserting mini Jack into input ,then pull out again.
This may kickstart Mic ,cause on other machines the soft ware still thinks its detecting something on socket and switches off int Mic.
(its a common bug 4 op1).

- thanks for your reply, I've tried everything i could as we speak, including your idea. maybe it's a defect in my particular piece.. was using it for a year all well and good though. strange.. maybe I'll open it up and have a look. do you have an idea what id have to do after i open it up? it's out of warranty and I'm from India so i have no idea where i can get it fixed professionally. thanks for all your inputs i appreciate the help

Right ,I'm no electronic whizz (any input from else where most welcome) .
But I'd start with a circuit tester over the Mic contacts to see if current flows through the Mic. Saying that,it may be a popped diaphragm thingy...?
Plus I've never opened one up to know how tightly everything is set.
If its a dynamic Mic,then theoreticly DIY replaceable.

i've been kind of rough with my ko2 and kp2 over the 3 years i've had them and been using them regularly. my ko2's power switch separated, and the volume rockers stopped responding. on my kp2, the audio in socket had issues and only processed incoming sound on the left channel, with nothing on the right.

in short, as much as i love these devices, the build quality is just a little lower on them than i'd prefer. i've resolved myself to buying a new one every 3 years, as they're decently affordable, and because 3-6 years usually brings a new product cycle, too.

you can open up the back guts by unscrewing the screws, and can poke around on all the boards and circuits; the mic connection is pretty fragile and likely relies on not a whole lot of movement/jostling. might want to check that connector before replacing the whole unit if using the onboard mic is that important.
