E2 vs ES2 trade-offs

Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster. Currently looking into getting a current gen Electribe, undecided between E2 and ES2 and looking for some guidance from seasoned users. I've read the manuals the best I could without ever having access to a device.

Clear difference:
- E2 doesn't have ES2 sampling functions,
- E2 has much more filters than ES2
- some overlap but basically the oscillators are different.

Here are my questions:
- Sampling aside what else do I lose going for E2 instead of ES2?
- Filters aside, is there anything I lose going for ES2 instead of E2?

Regarding the E2, each drum hit or pcm sample has a gain stage before the IFX. It's the osc edit knob. This osc knob functions as a gain stage and it's really nice to add that on kicks, snares Ect. You also have more complex waveforms and filter types on the e2.

On the es2, the osc edit knob as a loop start point.

One thing I always mention when comparing these two is that the E2S can resample. I run out of voices fast so I need it. It'd be hard for me having just the E2.

The edit knob is not always a gain regarding the PCMs on E2. Every sound reacts different and it's more like a "character" knob - sometimes is distortion or bit crush effect, for the instrument PCMs is longer decay/release etc.

As far as I know, besides the filters you are missing also most of the complex waveforms on E2S, such as VPM, SYN or similar.

I'd seriously consider getting both if you're thinking about doing a full live set =)

Otherwise a cheaper option is getting the EMX2 for textured synths and bass, coupled with a volca Sample

So while I could compensate the missing waveforms on Sampler by using the sampling function, there is functions of the OSC edit button that are different from one machine to the other, the E2 offering more complex character changes while the Sampler using it for start point, not complex character change.

Interesting, I guess I missed that in the documentation... Sure glad I ask the community.

Beside the decontented modeled OSC and filters on the sampler, the E2 and E2S also have different factory PCM waveforms in ROM.

The E2 is immediate and you can use it without preparation.

The ES2 is infinite because you can load samples, but there a little more file management involved.

Both are hot but quirky machines.
