PA4X Un-wanted/Un-needed samples delete?

Post by Jugoslovak »

Hey guys, How would one go about deleting any un-used samples in the PA4X?
I have installed a custom set and now want to find out which samples are not being used by styles and preference sounds and I want to delete them to make space for other samples which I need...

Thanks in advance.

Select the Not assigned to any Multisample/Drumkit option, and touch OK
to confirm.
This command deletes only samples not yet assigned to any Multisample or
Drum Kit. Use this option with care, since you may delete samples you would
like to preserve, but have not yet been assigned.

When a SET from an earlier Pa like Pa3X is loaded in Pa4X , the only way is to partially load SOUND banks so in this case
no unused samples will be loaded by default.
As a general rule , as I have posted in the past , when you load an ALL.SET in PaSeries you also load any unused samples and
multisamples (PCM folder) but especially unused Multisamples occupy samples that can't be deleted using "delete unused samples"
function since actually those samples are not unused , so before doing that you have to find first and delete all unused Multisamples ,
thing that is extremely difficult to find out !
My tricky advice in this case is :

- Delete any unused SOUND from User 1-DK Banks
- Save Your SET.ALL
- Goto SOUND/Record/Sample Edit/Upper screen menu/"delete all samples and multisamples"
- Goto Media/LOAD/ open Your SET.ALL/open SOUND and load one by one User 1-4 & DK banks.
- Done , now you can save your cleared SET

By this way of loading you can also discover any sound bank issues of missing samples (not all samples loaded) that
you can never see while loading a SET.ALL or a BKP file !

It's also highly recommended for advanced users that edit SOUNDs , not to leave unused Ram MS assigned in any velocity OSC
groups of a SOUND and you'd better assing any Rom (or empty) MS in unused part with -99 gain in order to avoid loading of
any unused Ram samples and save your Ram space !

Hope this helps

Thanks Anthony, I actually did that same thing when I upgraded from PA800 to PA3X, it was so time consuming, I thought maybe there would be an easier way in this day & age with the PA4X... but it looks like I might have to go through the same yet procedure again, at least this way (how you explained it above) I know that the job will be done properly :)
Thanks again for your input.

When you clean your SET , it will be always time consuming but not as much as you think if you read carefully what I wrote !
For instance if you're sure that you have no issue with any SOUND of your custom banks then load all the file SOUND
it will last 10 minutes the most , but if you're not ( and I know no one without at least a single sound issue ) then
devote 1 hour the most , loading one by one 5 Banks and be sure that all are fine in your SET (even for your next arranger ) !

A software utility that could automate a cleaning up process for a custom SET (like future PaManager) would follow this reverse
logic of loading existing sounds/DK of Styles and the relevant MS/samples , but you must always define manually what to keep ...
so it's the same time consuming thing !
