Mini Kaoss Pad - XY controller pad doesn't affect sound

Hi all,

I have a mini kaoss pad, bought 2nd hand recently. when i first got it, i tested it, and everything was fine. Now i have integrated it into my new mixer setup (receiving aux feed, outputting to stereo return), i'm having problems.

The sound goes through the mini-kp fine. if i press the hold button, i can hear the effect. i can go through all 99 presets and they all work with the hold button, but if hold is disengaged, no effect. and when i move my finger on the pad, nothing happens.

The first time i tried it, it was fine. am i doing something really obvious wrong, or has the pad broken since the first time i tried it?

it's the same through headphones btw. i can hear the kaoss effecting the input, but can't 'XY' it, which is kind of the point.
