Global Presets
Hi everyone,
I am struggling to get to grips with an equivalent to what would be Presets on a Yamaha Tyros. The nearest that I could think of so far is the "My Setting" Function. Are there any other areas of the keyboard that provide the same or similar functionality, or do you always have to throw away My Setting whenever you require a new one.
Many thanks.
Barry

Learn to use the Songbook - it will solve all your problems. In it you can set up hundreds of your favourite settings (and have 4 STS settings for each) and name them whatever you want. A good idea is to put say your initials as the Artist so then you can filter the book by Artist and only your entries will show in the list rather than all the Korg presets. You can also do this via the Custom List function.

Hi Rueben,
Many thanks for your prompt reply and the potentially good advice. I much appreciate it
I am aware of the songbook but don't cerrently see it as the solution to my problem. But of course I may be wrong. I.e. I am playing a song as let's say a Bossa Nova. At a particular Stanza, I want to change the style to a swing and change right and left hand voices with no gap in the playing. On another stanza I want to go back again to where I started but with a change if voice in the right hand again. And the style variation. to be increased to the next on and tab1 turned on at the same time. Are you suggesting to me that this could be done on three button presses during the song.
Many thanks once again Reuben

to get an equivalent to Presets on Yamaha it was so easy to use Autoselect-Performance in Pa-Arrangers before Pa4x, because also Performances you could link to styles with "StyleChange" - that means, also StyleSelection in combination with PerformanceSelection.
*
As mentioned storing registrations is so intiutive with Yamahas and Korg's system doesn't seem to be quite as well thought out - thats really true if one never used Autoselect-Performances. AutoSelect-Performances since Pa4x is renamed to AutoSelectKeyboard Set Library.
If someone think learning to use songbook, do not believe - that really do not solve problems to use registrations in that intuitive way you want to do.
Although not documented it always also was possible with Autoselect-Performances of Pa-Keyboards:
If AutoSelectPerformances (same as KeyboardSetLibrary in Pa4x) is activated, pressing one of the PerformanceButtons (KeyboardSetButtons) or touching the name of such a bank, automatically selects the Performance (KeyboardSet) you latest selected in that bank. This way, you can assign your preferred Keyboard Set to each control panel’s button, and select it just with a single press.
Now you think you have only one "MySetting" according to one single Registration Memory Bank as Yamaha - but Yamaha have hundreds. You also may have hundreds (or thousands) of that MySetting-Registrations, because there is a small nondescripting file (setup.gbl) in datastructure of SetFiles that contains all your latest selected Performances - simple save Sets containing Globals with different Setup.Gbl to create your Registration-banks.
Now select and copy your first setup.gbl to the RootDirectory of your DataDevice (or a folder you call maybe "myRegBanks") and rename this setup.gbl to MyReg001.gbl, copy your next setup.gbl to rootdirector and rename it MyReg002.gbl until you have hundreds of diffeent xxxxxx.gbl to be loaded like registrationbanks. Set-Folder containing datastructure .set/GLOBAL/setup.gbl you do not need furtheron - delete them after you copied and renamed all setup.gbl to registration-names you need.
Loading single xxxxx.gbl like registrationbanks is as fast as you select songbook-entries. It is a really stupid thing that Pa4x is missing the button and functionality of "StyleChange" - but think, still exists in Pa900/600/300.
To get hundreds of presets that will work with every style on the fly that still also is possible with Pa4x - select Performances/KeyboardSets with a SinglePress of a Button to get them in an intuitively manner you never can get with other features of Pa-Keyboards.
PS: with Pa3x you have direct access to 16 performances of each xxxx.gbl, because there are 16 bank-buttons. With previous models (like Pa800) also it was possible to direct access sounds (especially for stle-tracks) intuitively with AutoSelect-Sounds.
kind regards

Hi Siebenhirter,
Wow, such knowledge is wonderful.
My sincere thanks to you for this and apologies for the length of time that it has taken to get back to thank you, which I certainly do.
I will digest the information and try it out as I can get my head around it.
Many thanks Siebenhirter.
Best regards from me.

It's early days for me on the PA4X, but the Yamaha system of storing registrations is so intuitive. Korg's system doesn't seem to be quite as well thought out. I'm probably right on that because they have changed this system from the previous PA3X (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Chris
Many thanks for your info.
I also have a PA3X as well which I tried briefly before buying the 4X so it is interesting information.
Many thanks Chris and best regards from me.
