Midi command to mute and unmute sounds

Post by pa4x_user »

Is there a midi command that can be used to mute/unmute sounds (eg the Lower, Upper1, Upper2 or Upper3)? I have set up the Midi In settings to control the sounds - and it is easy to use midi to change the volume levels of a sound using CC7.

Whilst changing the volume from 0 to, say, 100 works as a "cheats" unmute, it has an instant effect, whereas the panel mute does not take effect until next note is played. That's what I need.

If you using external Midi controller....
You can sent Value 0 to mute channel and sent KBD SET(1-4) to reset, mean unmute.
PC# 64 KBD SET 1
PC# 65 KBD SET 2
PC# 66 KBD SET 3
PC# 67 KBD SET 4

PC (Program change) must by on Control Midi in Channel
to mute you must match channel, mean if you mute Upper1, set Upper1 Midi in to Ch1 and sent midi message on CH1 CC# 7 with value 0.

Hope will work for you.

Thank you for your suggestion - I tested this, but unfortunately using the KBRD reset to unmute takes immediate effect, whereas the display unmute takes effect from the next Note On message which is what I was after.

But knowing how to do KBRD RESET will be handy in other situations, thanks.

MIDI CC 11 - Expression
is better for this need.
If you reset CC 7 to 100, it will probably change the original volume setting.
Resetting CC 11 to 127 will reset the sound to its original value.

CC# 123 is for Note Off, maybe you try use before reset KBD SET.

you need no control midi channel, you need no control changes with cc7, cc11 or cc123, you need no change of volumes track - because it is much easier to send a programchange using an empty sound (user pcg) to silent a track like to be unmuted.

in case upper1,2,3 only should be muted temporarily it is also easy to unmute previous program with reactivating it with program change without volume of that track in that preset/performance would be changed, because stays with its previous volume.

this manner also is useful with styleplaying using styletracks like beeing switching-on/off tracks with program-change of that same empty user-pcg.
kind regards
