Bass with acomp off

Post by Bachus »

when playing a full chord on the left side in style mode with acomp off it also plays the root bass note...

this is a very nice feature, but not allways wanted, how do you switch this off?

Manual Page 63 "Turning The Bass & Lower Backing Function on or Off"

1 Go to the Global > Mode Preferences > Style page.
As an alternative, keep the SHIFT button pressed and press the STYLE PLAY
button to open the Style page.
2 Select or deselect the Bass & Lower Backing checkbox to activate or deactivate
the function.

Hello,
activating backing checkbox means switching both accomp-chords and root bass.
If you want to use accomp-chords of lower backing without bass: set volume of bass track to zero. That is because mute does not help, as styleplay-function "backing-on" use lower and bass also if muted.
kind regards

Hello,
also if personally someone seriously is not missing anything with Pa4x or others think old time Korg users have hard time adapting to a phylosophy of reduced functions:
using accomp-chords of lower backing without root bass is easy to do with previous Pa-keyboards switching on/off root bass with a simple direct-access-sound-button. It is no more possible to direct-access root bass on/off again with Pa4x because missing sound buttons and missing autoselect-sound-function.

This is only a small example and it is not the only one detailed function getting lost by omitting former features - and it is certainly not because old time korg users have problems with adapting a reduced OS like done with Pa4x.

Assignable buttons

Post by seaside »

If I read you correctly, the three assignable switches could be assigned for this feature or other.

Correct... :D

"Missing and reduced functions" is a misrepresentation of the PA4X - it is not simply a "PA3X+1" - it is different in quite a few ways with a newly designed OS.

Enjoy!!

Accomp: switching root bass on/off

You are right - Bass&LowerBacking is a function of assignable switches - we also had it in previous models and so it is not a new feature of Pa4x.

But question was how to switch-off bass root note separately in case playing full chord on left side with accomp off. This simply could be done with previous Pa-Keyboards (like Pa800) using with autoselect-sound to switch-on/-off with a simple press of sound buttons (also remotely).

By the way this is not the only extended function which is not possible with newly designed OS especially if someone knew how to use the features of predecessors.

Of course one can praise an OS to be different in quite a few ways with a newly designed OS. It does not mean however "missing and reduced functions" is a misrepresentation.

If different extended functions are no longer possible due to a new design of the OS, how to interpret that - maybe to interpret it as rudimentary compared to the usual standard or maybe as a logical change to overall OS, or to asser that it is more "performance safe" and make a lot more sense, because seriously not missing anything.

Also interpret it as OS-design to be good and particularly for new owners will be far less confusing when learning such a complex workstation, to be embraced for its reduced functionality.

These defense strategies are nonsensical, because they delay and each time prevent a reasonable update of the OS - and there are examples like Pa900 (fingered-3), Pa4x (memory mode) etc (unfortunately unfinished StylePreferences memorizeable individual not globally).

PS:Functions not to be understood or not to be needed for simple playing - that is not bad.
Missing features required for advanced applications or advanced users - are bad because are missing.

Your wish-list.... that's cool - we all have one..... but the PA4X performs exactly as its 1000+ page manual and its formal specifications so far.
If that doesn't suit I guess sensibly you don't buy it.....

This is an old old record now......

Would be better to help users with its questions made at the entrance as to invent beautifying hypocritical definitions for inadequacies that are not relevant for that.

You can hide yourself behind phrases of formal specifications, wishlists and which device someone should not buy - this escapes have nothing to do with functions that have been eliminated with a new design of OS.

Better support efforts to get an OS worthy for a so called flagship but it's up to you (not to me) to stay replaying of that old Halleluja record ...
