Init Multisample

Post by Little_Mikey »

Hi everybody-
New here and fairly new to my PA4X. I have saved several samples to internal memory and have tried unsuccessfully to turn them into sounds.

When I choose a saved sample and the hit the page dropdown, the multisample option is dimmed so it cannot be selected....so I am stuck.

I have several samples and would like to save each as a separate sound. I'm not finding anything helpful in the manual or online.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

is this the same problem?
I watched that video and wondered if this would work:

Make a copy of the .SET folder and remove the sounds that are not required, save and open the new .SET.

You will never face similar issues with your own PCM set made under Pa4X !
When you see faded samples/multisamples from 3rd party PaSeries resources , there are a lot of various reasons
for this issue with most common :
- Resources came from a protected commercial USB stick / mSD that somebody tried to hack or just copied !
- Samples are missing due to an unsufficient proccessing of an amateur user.
- Someone tried to overload samples of a whole set when required Ram space was unavailable , and this is the most
common issue of free downloading "garbage" that is around net and difficult to clear since faded samples are corrupted
and can't be deleted.
- Also sometimes a set with many errors / issues can be loaded correctly only as a whole SET and always partial loading
of resources will cause incomplete issues ... this is not definately a Pa4X issue but declares that this SET is faulty and corrupted !
- The fact that you will save in your Pa4X a loaded SET without investigating or healing the issues that partial loading will
surely reveal , this doesn't mean that this set will work properly when reloaded ...
- An already faulty set with issues you were using in a previous Pa model will never work properly in Pa4X ...

It's highly recommended to take care of your expensive Pa4X , load only official or trusted 3rd-party sound libraries and
avoid undefined free or shared resources around the network that will mess up your arranger !

All - Wow, I'm pleasantly surprised by the quick and varied responses. Allow me to back up a bit and perhaps explain what I'm trying to do.

I'm not at all satisfied with the factory organ sounds and wanted to have some others on hand to utilize.

Before springing $$$ for commerically available sounds, just wanted to test the process of loading/creating a sound would work. Thus, I have one .wav sample that I was using as a test. It was in fact downloaded from a free site. The goal was to load it to PA4X as a sample, assign it to a new multisample and then use that to create a new SOUND. Seemed simple enough, and a .wav is a .wav.....or so I thought.

So......

1.) Started with a simple .wav file of an organ sample
2.) Loaded and saved it to memory OK
3.) When saved sample is selected from Samples/Load, it plays the single note sample when keyboard is pressed. Fine so far

Now, my understanding is that I need to create a multisample and assign this sample to it. This is where I'm stopped. When I go into Sample screen and select my saved sample, then select page down menu with 'INIT MULTISAMPLE', the option is grayed out.

I'm not trying to do anything exotic with sets etc. Just want to load a single .wav and be able to use it as a sound.

What am I doing wrong? Is my process flawed?

Thanks again

Actually my answer had as reference the grayed samples issue and consequences ...
Concerning your question , initial multisample works only on "multisample" interface menu/multisample and not at sample edit where it's disabled ...

I don't want to discourage you , but sampling processing is an entirely scientific procedure that requires deep knowledge of natuaral instruments and physics.
Briefly , only one sample can hardly reproduce even a very simple wave oscillator like a non vibrato transistor organ or one pure non LFO analog synthesizer
oscillator and definatenly not a hammond which by the way is very easy compared to other natural instruments but a real working one is rare to find since
age has destroyed all tonewheel mechanisms and circuits !

Anyway you can experiment with ready samples even to sample by yourself but you have to learn extensively the essentials of this job for instance :
For a hammond like B3 you must have 6-12 samples per octave of the following :
- A multisample for every single tone inch (without Leslie or vibrato)
- A multisample for every single tone inch with vibrato scanner enabled ( except if you can precisely simulate the behavior using OSC LFOs)
- A multisample for every single tone inch of Pedal Bass
- A multisample per percussion tonewheel
- A multisample for keys releases of keybed & pedals
- A multisample for keys-on Fx of keybed & pedals
- Then you have to truncate samples and find the accurate symmetrical loop point for every single sample.
- Samples of every tonewheel inch must have a proportional volume to natural instrument in order the sum of all drawbar samples plus percussion in a
3 notes chord not to exceed 0 db in overall volume !
- Then you have to create multisample mapping and extend pitch of every sample note to meet flawlessly the neighbour sample deciding of what must be the
most suitable root key for every one for a uniform transiency between samples.
- As last you have to create the suitable SOUND timbres that will consist every Hammond Keyboard set with vibrato scanner , percussion , Key-on , releases
articulation switches and all needed Hammond drawbar variations plus ensemble rotary speakers effect !

This was a brief example of sound developing of Hammond C3 that is included in WavesArt Pa4X sound library "Vintage Organs"
http://wavesart.eu/Pa3XSoundLibraries/V ... rgans.html
and meant for all end-users to meet the art of emulating native instruments and thanks all for reading and your time !
