$399 usd is suggested in the video. Pocket change for many compared to the original price of a Moog.

Specs would be nice. I'm assuming a MIDI input (since I didn't see a keyboard) and a monophonic output. But what MIDI commands does it respond to?

Also, when they say CV, does this mean that you can (a) use it as a MIDI to CV converter for the rest of a Eurorack system, and (b) that there are patch points so you can bypass the normal connections?

I'd like a Eurorack 2600, but this may very well work, too. (And substantially cheaper.)

Or am I dreaming?

I'll wait for a decent demo, but $399 (£310) for a desktop MM clone? Yeah, I'll have one... especially as you can patch out.

It has MIDI in and thru, and a USB port next to the MIDI ports. But with that dipswitch on the backside for changing MIDI channels, we can't be too sure about its MIDI CC capabilities. Hopefully the release will be a bit more robust than the prototype.

Nice small form factor, I'd bet it's going to be a top seller. I'd still get a used Slim Phatty first because of the similar price point, MIDI CC capability, poly chain, and most importantly, patch memory.

I'd also like that Deepmind 12, but as long as they keep using 4 octave, limited-length keyboards, I'll bow out of one of those.

Small footprint seems to be more than a little constricting. I do not understand this trend towards miniaturization.

Small bedroom studio. Not a lot of room. Only one master keyboard needed - or just a laptop as a sequencer and a small controller keyboard.

Lightweight stage rig. The gig is 150 miles away, everything needs to go on the van, then get set up, and played, and broken down, then put back in the van and unpacked at home base.

Small venues. A stage eight feet wide that's just a raised area six feet from the bar. The synthesist gets wedged in a corner while the drummer gets shoved up against the wall in the back.

Low cost. Until you start stretching the limits of current manufacturing, less material means lower cost.

There are four reasons right off the cuff. I'm sure there are more.

Got 5 keyboards. Computers and monitoring as well as keyboard amp in 10 x12 room. No need for beringer D as mini moog fits. The couch eats up a good 1/4 of the room.

For the record, your studio's a hell of a lot bigger than mine.

Of course, if I complete my plan to build a studio shed, then that will no longer be true, but until that day I'm a lot more space constrained than you are, and I know a lot of other people are as well.

Many modern studios have limited space, especially with so many options now, including hardware. Even live, having a small form factor is great and convenient with MIDI controllers and multiple modules. Miniaturization is fun and functional... smartphone >> ENIAC, right?

Concerning sound, my bet is that it will be darn close to the original. The schematics are public domain, so it's trivial to get to get electronic components that are faithful enough to the original. Quacks like a duck and all...

Well, at least it does not come with miniature keys as well. That would be totally off putting for me. My guess is that they will sell like "hot cakes" if the sounds are close enough to the original. Connectivity looks to be advanced over the original which is a good thing as well.

There are all those jacks on the top of the case that didn't exist on the original. If you can output the CV and gate, then this would also work as a MIDI input for a Eurorack system. And half the cost of the existing all in one Eurorack modules.

My wife doesn't need to know, does she?
