Recording straight to audio track

Post by ronnfigg »

I have been asked to make some backing tracks for a friend of mine. He is going to use audio recordings of cover songs by the original artist as the starting point. I have figured out how to get those tracks into the audio section of the sequencer. Where I am stuck is how to get the internal Kronos sounds directly into an audio track. Not as a midi track. Being as the audio tracks of the cover songs will not lock to MIDI clock, I do not need to use midi tracks. I do not want to have to take an output from the Kronos and go back into one of the inputs. I am sure there is a way to do this and I am having a hard time finding it in the manuals. I think it is a matter of not knowing the proper term for what I am trying to do. Anyway, any and all help would be appreciated. Even if it is a reference to one of the manuals. I can work from there. Tried finding a YouTube for it and there is really nothing there except how to record the external inputs.

thats a clever idea. you are trying to find something inside the Kronos that will grab the Kronos audio and automatically make it a WAV file . Sort of like 24/7 sampling all the time. I suppose you want to use the SeQ for the entire song production.

I would definitely definitely wait for someone experienced to chime in.

Just to avoid any sizzle crackle pop experimentation.

I'm almost certain Qui did a video on this, I bounced audio directly to a USB and it was wav.

You can also record to midi tracks then bounce it to audio to convert to wav.

Look for Qui Robinez videos on youtube,
he makes very excellent Kronos instructional vids.

The Q.R video is the route i go. Resample my internal Kronos sounds being played and then have that as an audio wave file which can then be put into an audio track. I will find the video for how to put a wave file into audio track, for those who need it. It is easy to get stumped in putting a wave file to kronos audio track.

The video for wave file to audio track.

Seems complicated. I think you just have to set the output of the timbre you want to play to the record bus.

Sander is right I just tried this and it works. Set the recbus in the midi mix page to the desired bus 1 to 4 and set the input of the selected audio track to the same. You can also record in stereo by setting the recbus to 1+2 and using stereo linked audio track whose input is set to 1+2 as well. In this case use multitrack recording and select both audio tracks of the pair as rec tracks.

Thanks Sander and Stephen. I think this just might be the ticket. I will get to this in a few minutes and see how it works.

Why don't you play the parts you want on to a track (or even on a mid track), then go to "mix them down" but with all other tracks muted? Then you will have a .wav file with only the sounds you want.

Am I misunderstanding what you are trying to do?

That's how I've done it. Did you ever see my old "Multiple Combi Recording" video?

I posted it 9 years ago, for the OASYS. Procedure is the same. My workflow was:

Record MIDI tracks to Song 1. Turn down the metronome volume and record L/R outputs to AUDIO Tracks 1/2.

Copy the Audio Tracks 1/2 to Song 2. While listening to the audio from Audio 1/2, record single or multiple MIDI tracks. Turn down volume on audio tracks 1/2 and record the new MIDI tracks to Audio Tracks 3/4.

Copy Audio tracks 1/2/3/4 to Song 3. Continue the procedure till done.

By having the MIDI tracks on the old songs, I could always go back and edit events and record new Audio tracks if needed; kind of like a Freeze/Un-Freeze function.

Note: Copy Measure function allows you to record any part of a Song to any other Song.

I will have to try the record bus routings. I see the option all the time but never see a need for it mostly because i don't really do much sequencer work.
Not yet.
I've seen a lot in Kronos that i never use but i am glad it is there. I will get into more sequencer work eventually, i am sure it will help me broaden my music style.

From the sampling tab, select sample to disk option and while playing your program or a combi, activate sampler and press play start/stop button to start and stop recording. Your "resampled" audio wav file is on the disk as TAKEN....wav. Take this file and import it on an audio track in the sequencer. Importing an audio file is described in the manual in detail.

If I'm not mistaken, in one of the DVD's that come with your Kronos, very early in the DVD it tells you about doing this. I could be wrong though.
