and the song was named YOLO….

https://soundcloud.com/user-898236994/yol2xwav

My friend, Mike, and I are long time enthusiastic Kronos owners.

YOLO stands for " You only Live Once ". YOLO is a message song.
Its a 2 minute instrumental- 100% Kronos

Recently, Mike impressed me with this catchy Song. He is the author of the basic chord changes.

He graciously sent me the SEQ/SONG file and invited me to add backing tracks and anything else.

As is my style, I got carried away, LOL. Mike is not sure what happened to his song, but he is a good guy and is positive about the many embellishments.

FYI, we are not expecting fame, fortune, screaming girls, ( neighbors do yell at me but thats another story) or a gazillion Facebook likes.

We are having a great time creating Songs using the Kronos. :)

Thanks for posting this.
Pleased to find musicians are having some fun and willing to share their adventures.

Good luck to both of you.

(Fame,fortune and screaming girls…pending....??).

I despise jazz and anything that sounds like it but I liked this, theres a lot of innovative stuff in there. Strangely interesting stuff.
I never suspected the Kronos of being capable to make sounds like that.
You can add embellishments to my tracks anytime you feel like it. :soundsgood

Hi, I really appreciate your time and comments.

What to play and what folks like is a huge canvas.

I am an older guy, 64. So my stuff will reflect some decades , esp going back to the 60's/70's.

Here is an instrumental I named So Sad. Its a message song. And it is a sad song. I am offering it as a contrast to other moods expressed in my other material. I hope you find it interesting

The Kronos is a fantastic palette for a Song writer, IMO

Thats the theme music to a movie they haven't filmed yet.
Thats the music I make too, I recognized the genera immediately.

You can imagine a dialogue , its music that makes you think and relax at the same time. People will think they've heard it before, but they haven't.

All you need is 2 vans of equipment and a studio engineer, or a Kronos.
Decisions decisions. :?

Thank you for the compliment. a friend noticed the same similarity with So Sad - with a movie soundtrack.

I enjoy many movie scores. And cover a few of them since I like the imagery.

Its fun to try out 'covers' of movie scores on friends or family. My mother in law ( she is very cool) was saying how much she liked House of Cards.

A few days later I played the opening credit score ( a 3 minute instrumental/Jeff Beale) for her on the Kronos.

She liked it, but was racking her brain, could not connect the intro piece
to House of Cards.

I think this is typical with movie scores- they enhance
the movie or mood at a gut emotional level.

Very nice bass work Greg. I find watching muted TV is often a very good way to find inspiration for new tracks, particularly if you know the mood you want and can then select Movie, Comedy, Wildlife etc - or staring out of a window lol. There was a time when I'd wake at 'Stupid-o-clock' in the wee hours and either hum into a dictaphone or quickly record something - you always think you'll remember it but you never do - half the time I don't even remember it after I play back the recording :?

Nice job - I hate the genre, but as I tell my lads often enough, you don't have to like the music to appreciate a musician's talent and to glibly say 'Urgh that's s**t' is just ignorant to the fact that writing music isn't easy - despite what their PC allows them to think.

What inspired such melancholy in this track?

Thank you for the compliments. Its cool to hear from Song writers. I think we are creative souls and our Kronos is a great friend. Playing bass is so much fun.

The theme occurred( almost 3 yrs ago) to me shortly after our cat died. ( we are a 2 cat family). Wife and I do not have children. We are attached to our cats.

Songs can reflect emotions at a particular time, I think. So I kept the theme bottled up for a while as I thought it was too much.

Fast forward to current times. Wife watches the news ( local and national) most days. I can hardly stand 1 minute of it. The stories are mostly unfortunate, tragic, head shaking ( why do they make those decisions ?) .

Given all that, I thought it was time to make a statement for this experience.

Music is a great way to express our feelings - I'm sure all musicians are either doing that or conveying another message of some sort.

Death certainly invokes emotions that may only be able to be expressed in this way - when words just don't quite 'say' enough. It's not a pleasant emotion after all, and losing pets can be every bit as emotionally traumatic as any death - I think it's great you were able to express that in music, it may even have helped unburden you. All artists use their respective talents to express their inner thoughts and emotions I think - I know I express myself through my music, I'm sure most of us do if we aren't writing for someone else's message or doing a cover.

Plus it's nice to know the story that influenced the music, the story behind it helps you to relate to the piece, and despite it not being a genre of choice for me personally it's certainly a very fitting tribute Greg, which clearly was 'So Sad'. Excellent. Thanks for sharing.

Just listened to house of cards, great bass line, you could almost play anything on top of that.

I am partial to Hanz Zimmer scores. inception is nice.
Just turned my Kronos on.

Thank you for the thoughtful post. everything you said is also my experience.

Most of my originals are ' message ' songs. I wrote a song about our mortality, a very difficult subject. I think the music conveys the passage and where we all eventually meet after our time on this planet.

On a happier note, I wrote another song for my father in law and his perfect wife. Its called " I Like Wine ". As you can imagine, they like good wine and are wonderful to be with.

You are right, a lot can be done with that bass line. I will post my cover on SC in a few weeks. I would like to embellish and extend what I have done so far. Maybe add some nasty guitar parts ;)

Yeah I heard your "I like Wine" track already Greg when you posted in - 'that post where everyone posts music' - and as I've said, not my genre at all (mainly I think because it's so free, I'm buggered without my progressions, I just can't grasp jazz sadly, it's too complex - I need structure which I'm sure there is in jazz, I just can't pick up on it  ) but another good piece none the less - well, who am I to judge anyway? ( Is that really you Schmooster? Yes it is, piss off, I'm being serious for a change)

You don't have to like a piece of music to appreciate the talent and work that's gone into making it - plus if we all stuck to our 'favourite genre' then there's a lot of techniques we'd never learn and a lot of fine music we'd never hear of. Although I still stand by the fact that the last 20 years has produced little or no real talent - and I blame it on poor quality psychedelics and crap amphetamine sulphate  SGT Pepper's wasn't written on this planet.

I find the absence of an obvious melody the stumbling block with jazz.
If anyone can make jazz interesting to me, as in this thread, I'm in. 8)

I touch on light jazz or even new age jazz here and there.

I think having interesting chords and chord progressions is the way to go.
From there, the bass line + tempo falls into place. Then find some kind of simple lyric or melody

I like using flute, sax or trumpet, too. I try to find phrases that are ' natural ' and easier to follow for these instruments. I prefer to *not* jam on these instruments . Mastering complex phrasing and feel on sax, is another skill set, IMO.
