What a mess

After using OS 1.21 since I've had my 4 I decided reluctantly to try OS 2.0. My wife who is super smart with these types of things helped me make the change. We backed up our data and set out to install 2.0. First we noticed that it takes a very long time to download. Once we were done we booted up the system and thats when things started to happen that we new immediately weren't right.

1. We reloaded my song book and found that most of the songs I had previously programmed had to be re-edited. Here is the message we got = "resource style not found"
2. After re-editing the style, it would not save in the songbook and the right hand sounds would play intermittently. Meaning sometimes they would play and then not.
3. I never did find the 52 new styles that were supposed to come with the new OS.
4. We finally decided to go back to OS 1.21 only to learn that the PA4 would boot up to 1.21 then immediately go back to 2.0.
So it appears that once you install 2.0 you are stuck with it and what was once a very good keyboard is now a monstrous mess.
If anyone out there knows how to get us out of 2.0 and back to 1.21, I'm ready to listen.
Also, how can you find out besides when you boot up, what operating system is being used?

Hi Chuck

Sorry you are having problems.

Re your numbered points:-
1. This is a new version and complete overwrite so any custom styles in the factory area will be overwritten
2. & 3. This sounds like your installation didn't work properly - e.g. the 52 new styles are in the FAVORITES 1,2 &3 banks.
You can overwrite the new styles and re-load them later wherever you want as these are the new vol-27 bonus styles.
4. Can't answer or help with that - I am guessing that 1.2.1/4 are updates and not complete overwrites (versions)

Try a clean download and re-installation

Thanks Pete. Sure is a mess. I find that when I re edit the song, they are fine until I turn off the system. Then upon reboot, the style resource does not exist and I'm back to re-editing.
I'll work on this later. It's 4 July here and I wanna watch the fireworks. Have a great day.

Hi Pete. Back to the OS 2.0 install. Have you installed it and if so did you have problems. We have tried twice now still having issues. It won't save the edits and some of the keys become inactive. Boy are we having fun. Thanks.

Hi,

did you follow the manual ?

Don´t press "Update", press "Format & Reset" prio install.

It looks like some resources weren´t loaded ( that usually happens if you choose "Update" ).

Otherwise I would try to download the full file again, if possible to another usb-stick.

We followed the instruction that come with the download. Still having issues with songbook edits. They last until you close down the system. Upon reboot the edits are lot and you have to start over again. Thanks

Hi Chuck,
Did you download the latest Pa4x manual ?
MAYBE, the way you save songbook settings etc has changed and what you're doing is now wrong. Worth a peek, just in case.

Ie, I thought I'd lost direct play , because I couldn't access the styles in the same way as I did before. Naturally assumed I had a bad download or major bug . Haha. I was wrong. Pete mentioned the manual, so I looked the function up.
There it was, I had to do things differently.

Download and install takes a long time. Lucky I was for warned, or I would have thought something was wrong.

Thanks Rikki. I did download the new manual but did not peruse it. Guess I better get to it. I also did not see 52 new styles. I saw some but not 52. One thing I might do is just go to factory restore and then reload OS 1.21. Again thanks and best to you.

Hi Chuck,
I would say if you haven't got them all , something could be wrong with the download.
It's only the 3 categories, pop, ballad , dance, didn't look like than many either, so I counted them , just to make sure.

Be a shame if you can't get it to work.

Main thing I'm happy about, I think I'm finally getting the correct sounds in my psr converted styles. It was bringing up Gm instead of xg , which was a disaster. Off to do some checking. Fingers crossed.

Hey Chuck

I'm now getting a little worried about your PA4X and not so much about the installation.

What you are describing seems very odd.

I installed it and have had no problems at all.

Do you get the new Korg flash screen on boot up?
The new styles should be in FAVORITES 1-3 banks - what do you see there?

As the guys say above you must select "format and reset" during the installation but if you follow the instructions EXACTLY as in the version2 installation manual it should work just fine.
Did you re-download the files?
Try a different USB?

You folks in Australia are great, I took a break and will get after this tomorrow. I'm kind of sorta, challenged when it comes to understanding all this tech stuff. But I have wonderful wife who gets it. I'll let you know soon.
