Error message on V2 install

Post by SolMan »

When I downloaded and extracted the five files to my USB drive they listed as shown on page 1 of the instructions (except mine are UPD as required by my PA4X) I left the documentation files on my computer.
However, on my computer, file one lists as TYPE "001 FILE" but the others list as TYPE "File Folder". When I start the install and select the first file, I get error message "Selected package is not valid". I deleted and downloaded the file and unzipped it to the USB again, and get the same error message. BTW, on the KORG screen, in front of the other four filenames is a blank folder icon, but in front of the ...upd.oo1 filename, there is a folder icon with " pa PKG" inside.
Any help much appreciated.

Talking about UPD format , You must have bellow files in the same folder/root
of a USB stick that has been formatted in your Pa4X.

Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.001
Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.002
Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.003
Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.004
Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.005

Only then system will check idegrity of full Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd
file splitted to 5 segments and will proceed to update !

Hope this helps

Thanks Anthony. Although I knew the USB drive had been formatted on the PA4X, I reformatted it twice more and copied the extracted files from my computer to the root of the USB stick. Put stick in front USB port and went through the system loading procedure as directed by the instructions but still get the same error message. At a loss.

- Have you exactly all files I've written in the same level/folder ?
- Is this the right model Upgrade International/Musikant/Oriental ?
- How do you know that your model requires UPD format and not PKG ?

V2. 0 - Divided version download problem

Post by SolMan »

Thanks again. The five items are in the root of the USB stick. My PA4X is a US purchase and I downloaded the PA4X Software (not the Oriental or the Musikant versions.) When I did the system loading procedure it instructed me to install UPD.
One thing I am questioning is that my five items are not listed in the same order as you show because of the fact that the 001 unzips as a file while the others unzip as folders. I would like to know if others who downloaded the divided version have the same unzipped results as I do.

Hey Solman

The files should be exactly as Antony says:-
  • Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.001
    Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.002
    Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.003
    Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.004
    Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.upd.005
If not, there is something strange happening when you unzip them.
I downloaded the 5 zips and got the above results.

Re-download and re-format the USB and give it another go.

Cheers

It appears that my problem was with the divided version download. I just finished downloading the FULL version and the unzip gave me the five files just as Anthony and you listed. I'm guessing it was "Operator error" that occurred when I unzipped the files earlier (though I did do the download and unzip several times.) Since it's late here, I'm going to do the wise thing and put the update off until tomorrow.
Thanks for the help and showing me that the files I had were not correct.

Bruce , it's obvious that your problem are the separate folders , that's why I posted the solution to you !

Many user will face this issue because of their PC/Mac association of extracted files with their installed compression
utilities like 7zip/Rar/Zip or system default , that treat those files in different ways.
My advice is to click on downloaded file and choose from right mouse click menu to decompress file "here" ,
and use the whole folder "Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.XXX" for your update where
"Pa4X_OS_and_Resources_v200.xxx" or "...001-005 files only are included !
Pa4X BIOS definitely requires all splitted to segments files to be in the same level and not in subfolders !

You can also DIY , copying all those extracted files in separate folders , in the same folder/root and then Upgrade
clicking on any of them , There is no incomplete/wrong upgrade ... system will check everything and if upgrade
procedure will finish then all are done in the proper way !!!

Hope this helps

Tuesday's last download and unzip yielded the five folders I needed to do the V2.0 install but today when I tried the install, the Korg kept trying to verify the integrity of the files and never completed that step. Tried another download and unzip. Same result. Amazingly, the third try was the charm. Keyboard now updated.

That's absolutely true if a very slow USB stick is used like 4Mb/sec !
This update requires a fast USB 3.0 compatible with 2.1 protocol !
My whole V2 update loading from my USB 3 , lasted 3 minutes the most and then system needed 16 minutes
to complete the installation after rebooting !

I did it with an USB 2.0 Stick, but that one has a reading ( and writing ! ) speed of approximately 28 MB/s ;)

The "cheap" and "micro" sticks often have only 4MB/s...

I have just received my new PA4X 76 Musikent a few hours ago. I am trying to update from V1.24 to V2.0... I need to use the UPD type format and as above I am getting the "Package not valid" message. I downloaded the all in one UPD.Zip file and have unzipped in WinRar and 7Zip with same result. I will try a few different USB keys but so far no luck. Hopefully I will get lucky and figure it out.

Hi,

after unzipping it you should have 6 files ( for Musikant, international only concsists of 5 files ).

When starting the update you´ve got to choose only the first file.
