Song Stems to style?

Post by superchunk »

Hello,

Just wanted to say this is my first post on any forum ever, so please go easy on me :)

So I have a pa4x and my band members recorded each instrument of our song separately as WAV files, so I have about 8 WAV files which are essentially the backing tracks of the song. I was wondering if there was anyway to make these WAV files a style? I already have them separated in percussions, bass, guitar etc.

If not, what's the best way to import these onto the pa4x as backing tracks and play over them? Should I import them as drum kits? Surely there's a better way?

Thanks,
superchunk

Arranger keyboards (including the Pa4x) are very limited when it comes to audio. Your best bet would be to use a DAW and create a stereo mp3 track. The Pa4x can't handle audio playback the way you need. There's workarounds/features for very short audio loops but not for longer tracks/stems.

Hmmm.. ok, I have managed to recreate the tracks in my DAW using VSTs, would it be possible to use the multisampler, after exporting every note from all the VST intsruments to create a 'replica sound' on the pa4x, then export a midi and point it to use the newly sampled sounds in the pa4x? Then convert that midi to a style, would that work? So far I have managed to add the sounds to the pa4x but not sure how to point a midi to use the keyboard sounds rather than the standard GM sounds.

This is such a loooong process, there's gotta be better/easier ways?

any help is appreciated, thanks so much!

The most common ways of doing anything audio:

1) If you want to loop a short segment of your track(s), you can use the time slice feature. In general this works best with non-pitched drum/percussion material.

You can find some info here:

2) You can build your own drum kit and add short segments of audio to various keys. You will run out of ram if that's how you want to use this keyboard. Even if you don't have issues, there's limitations...

3) Or you can just sample individual instruments and create playable sampled sounds. Obviously, that would be extremely time consuming...

4) or the mp3 option that would basically be your audio backing track.

Workstation keyboards such as Kronos do have multi-track audio sequencers.
