Absolute beginner question: Kronos and the USB/MIDI
Hi guys.
Is it possible to connect a Kronos Platinum (3.1.2 system version) to a PC using an USB cable as MIDI?
I would like to use Kronos Editor software.
I had a Casio and I connected the Casio to my PC with an USB cable as MIDI.
I already tried to connect them installing the drivers by KORG but my PC (windows 7 x32) didn't recognize anything.
Thanks for all
Mark

Yes, it is possible
The Korg MIDI drivers should be installed before connecting the Kronos for the first time, else the generic MIDI drivers are associated with the Kronos. Try and use the same USB port every time for the Kronos, else the MIDI drivers get installed for each different USB port and, because Windows can only enumerate up to 10 MIDI drivers, problems often arise. The solution is to uninstall unncessary MIDI drivers using Korg's uninstall tool (Uninstall KORG USB-MIDI Device). In the tool's Option selection, uncheck "Delete KORG MIDI Device only" to allow removal of unused non-Korg MIDI devices.

Hi voip, thanks for the answer.
I connected the kronos to my PC, on a USB working port, after that I installed the drivers by KORG.
But it didn't work. My PC couldn't find kronos.
I tried the step that you described in your message but I have a problem: when I uncheck the option "Delete KORG MIDI Device only" and I go back all midi ports are greyed out, and I can't uninstal anything.
Do you have any idea what I should do?
Thanks
Mark

Hi, again, here is like a testing lab
IAA, about your considerations, yes, kronos is on, I rebooted the PC at least twice, the cable was being used without problems in another keyboard.
Voip, there are 10 slots, only the 0 and 1 are occupied (0 by the video card and and 1 by the sound card), the others are empty, but, everything is greyed out, including the 0 and 1, all greyed out. There are 8 empty, and greyed out too.
Thanks for all.

Has the latest version of the Korg MIDI drivers now been installed?
A video card seems like an unusual entry for a MIDI device. Is that what is seen in the Korg MIDI Driver Uninstall Utility program window?
If the MIDI drivers have been installed, what happens when the Kronos is plugged in via its USB-B port (the square-shaped one) to one of the computer's USB-A ports (rectangular shaped ones), and the Korg MIDI Driver Uninstall Utility is run again (just to view the MIDI allocations)? Does the Kronos now appear in the list of MIDI slots?

Hi voip.
Yes, the drivers installed are the latest (DrvTools_1_15_r22).
I think that the video card is on midi device because Nvidia drivers came with audio drivers, I think it occurs because the video card has HDMI out to connect with TVs or something like that, and you can connect your pc with only one cable (audio and video).
The Kronos doesn't appear on the list. When I click on "install korg usb midi device" a message "no device ins plugged in" is showed.
Thanks
Mark
