Nanopad2 X/Y question

Just discovered the X/Y pad on my 4 year old Nanopad. Thought I would try using it and have an operational question. I have a patch set for a filter sweep using the main Joystick. I would like to use the X/Y pad instead keeping my hand nearer to the other pads. When I sweep from left to right, the filter opens as expected. When I release the pad, the filter stays at the last setting. I thought it should reset to the initial setting once released. There is a hold button that the manual states is for latching the last position. In my case, that hold button makes no difference.

I watched a YT video showing the hold button working like I thought but in a different mode. (Touch scale mode)

Should the hold button work like I suggest on the standard cc message mode? It’s not a big deal, just curious and trying to understand.
