Hello all,
I'm working on my X5D and I have a slight problem.
I need to replace the backup battery and this is the kind that's
soldered to the mainboard.
I've ordered a battery holder that has leads that can be soldered into place.
What I need in case this fix goes wrong is a copy of the sysex files.
My X5D is factory original and no edits have been applied.
Can anyone help?
Thank you, David

Re: Korg X5D sysex files please
Restoration of factory preset data on an X5D doesn't require a SysEx file. The presets are in ROM, and reloading them can be accessed via GLOBAL Page 5A. See pages 156-157 of the Owner's Manual for details.
By the way, pressing PAGE+ and PAGE- while powering the X5D on should initialize it.

Thank you, T3owner. I think this is the very thing I needed to know.
I've seen You Tube videos showing people soldering a new battery holder to the mainboard but restoring the voices isn't mentioned.
So here's my plan...
1: Remove baseplate
2: take out mainboard
3: unsolder existing battery
4: Take new battery holder and solder its leads onto mainboard, noting polarity.
5: Insert new CR2032 cell.
6: Reassemble keyboard
7: Execute reset
And here's my concern...
This presupposes that all I need to restore - prog voices, Combinations
and drum sounds, and all the presets are in the ROM.
And that ROM is a given, accessible and needs no power backup.
What's worrying me is that in the maker's service manual are these statements, under 'Programs'
RAM - 100 Programs
ROM - 136 Programs (for general midi)
RAM - 100 Combinations
As far as I know, RAM needs permanent power, from the system battery.
So, I havw two choices...
Carry out the plan as above, reser and all will be fine.
Or...
Borrow an adjustable external power supply, set it to 3v and use it to keep the battery backup live while doing the plan thing.
Sorry this is long winded but I need to know how to keep my X5D 'factory' and not wreck it.
Thanks for reading, David

Seems a solid approach, one I've applied to several of my own synths.I've seen You Tube videos showing people soldering a new battery holder to the mainboard but restoring the voices isn't mentioned.

Rest assured - the preset data is all in ROM, and will be restored to RAM if you initialize and reload as per the Owner's Manual. It's probably riskier to work on the X5D while external backup voltage is applied. And here's my concern...

Thank you very much T23owner, that's exactly what I needed to hear.
I could have borrowed a power supply but I don't need to now!
As I don't like soldered-in batteries, I'll be adding a separate holder for the
cell. The holder has wires so I'll solder it to the board and use a double sided pad to attach it inside the casing.
Thank you again for your help.
David.
