Vector joystick Question

Post by deminda »

Some strings combi's have vector control assigned to change the string sounds from solo to full ensemble. Is there a way to save the combi with the preferred Vector joystick position . Thank you

Hi,

The vector joystick is always interpreted as starting at the center position when you enter a new combi, regardless of its physical position. (The same goes for the RT knobs and JS, btw). There is no way, to my knowledge to change this. What you can do though, is to edit the COMBI in question to change what the center position means, so that you get the desired sound from the start and then the desired effect when you move the VJS.

For the VJS controlled volume, the place to edit this is: "EQ/Vector/Control" -> "Vector Volume".

In a combi, it could be a bit of a search to find which timbre apply.
Yes you can set the VJS center value and X or Y values for volume.

Page 446-455 parameter guide, covers vector control setup.

Is the combi using VJS volume control to bring in the full ensemble or bring in volume of other timbres?
Or is it using CC control to bring in the full ensemble effect?

You will need to find out if the VJS control effect you are hearing is volume based or CC#-message based.

I guess the easiest way is to start in Combi page Vector Volume Tab.
Because that is most likely what brings sounds in and out for the full ensemble versus solo string effect.
You will see which timbre programs are enabled for Vector control.
You will also see settings there for center volume per each timbre, as well as settings for which direction does the changes per each timbre.

After Volume control, go to CC control and Envelope Vector control pages, to see what effect those are creating. You may decide to adjust the X,Y settings to follow the shift of center volume, if it applies for keeping the full form of the sound you want to hear at center point.
