D888 gone bad

Post by dogmeat »

So, I have a D888 I bought new back in the day and used it to record a few gigs & do some stuff at the house. Then it sat for about 5 years (in the original box). I got it out today and there was about a dozen songs on the drive. I played one to remember what this stuff was, and it was OK. I went to another song and only got about 1/2 the tracks on playback coming through the audio... but the meter shows the other tracks with content. I went to another song and only got one track on L and one on R (but indications on the meter for all 8). So, back to the first song and same... only 2 tracks play. then none. all the while I can see the tracks on the meter screen. Also, I could not record. I made a "new song", but nothing gets to the screen, and no tracks record. The instruments can make the "overload" LED flash at every channel, so the preamp part is working. I don't know from there. The signal goes A/D conversion and then to the controls, etc but apparently no signal is getting to the master.

I downloaded the songs to my PC. the I wiped the hard drive on the 888, and downloaded the software update. no change.

Is there a another reboot or re-install?

I don't think it is the hardware. I thought there was a site to re-launch the software... anybody remember that?

is there some testing I can do?
