Disable Sampling

Post by CGoodhines »

Is it possible to disable user sampling in the Kronos?
Did I disable it sometime in the past (I have old samples stored), or do I need a button fixed.
Nothing happens when I press "sample"............

There’s no function on the KRONOS to disable Sampling Mode. If the button is not working when you press it, chances are it maybe faulty and a Tack Switch likely needs replacing. The cost of the part is a few cent, installation on the other hand will not be easy and likely require 2 hours work.

How old is your KRONOS? Is it under warranty?

It's old, like most of them out there. Nearest repair facility is 4 hours away. I guess it could be worse..............

It is also possible that the solder contacts on the switch have cracked, especially if you have a tendency to press the buttons with a lot of pressure. I had a similar problem on my Triton. I open it up, got out a magnifying glass and saw hairline fractures on the malfunctioning button. I re-flowed the solder joints and it worked fine. Since the mechanical connection for the switches and PC board rely on the solder joints, this can always be an issue.

The sample START/STOP button does not respond, until you arm SAMPLING REC, first.

You can set the Sample Trigger to:

Sampling START SW
NOTE ON
THRESHOLD

and SEQUENCER START SW, in Sequencer mode.

Isn't there some kind of 'diagnostic' mode on the Kronos where you can test keys?

Google Korg Kronos Service manual. There is info on the diagnostic routines.
