Midi Questions

Post by Lunanautdude »

Hi all, new here. Did a quick comb through to see if I could find the answer I was looking for but couldn't see any, sorry if I missed it.

I'm trying to get my MicroKorg XL bpm and arp to sync up with the bpm in Pro Tools but am having some dramas. I can get the XL to play drawn in midi notes in a midi channel on PTs but can't seem to get the bpm to sync up. I also can't seem to get the XL to WRITE midi notes in PTs either. I've tried using a USB to USB connector and also going USB to the MIDI ports on the XL using a USB MIDI interface. Firstly, will either of these two solutions work or am I just waisting my time?

I've tried changing the clock source in the XL's settings, both USB and MIDI as well as setting it to AUTO but when I set it to AUTO it just defaults back to using the XL's clock.

I feel like I'm missing something really obvious but I can't find the solution. Would love if someone could come to my rescue.

Cheers,
Wayde.

Quick edit: I'm using a 2017 Macbook Pro running Sierra. Pro Tools 12.5

Hi,

Both solutions should work. Note that for
* the plain usb cable solutions (mac usb to xl usb) you need to install the Korg USB driver.
* using the USB MIDI interface, you need to connect both MIDI IN and OUT on the XL.

Further depending on your choice above, you choose ext usb or ext midi for the clock setting.

What's left is setting up ProTools correctly to transmit a clock to the XL.
With writing MIDI notes in PT, I presume you mean recording in PT the notes that you play on the XL? Should work as well. A correct setup of ProTools will make this happen.

Unfortunately, I can not really help with ProTools as such.

Ciao.
