Kronos , USB (B) , No Mass Storage Device
When I connect Kronos via USB (B - Printer Cable) to Windows 10 PC, Kronos does not show up as a Mass storage device.
1) It is not the Cable because the same cable works on my Extreme
2) Kronos has the latest OS (3.1.3).
3) I am not looking so much for MIDI as for File Transfers between PC and Kronos
Since this works fine between the same PCCable and my Korg Extreme, the issue seems to be with Kronos itself.
Extreme has a Scan USB on Utilities, is there something similar in Kronos

Found more solutions to my problem. Setup Kronos as an FTP server.

It's crazy that the USB route works fine in Extreme but not Kronos, flagship product. Is that just a manufacturing error on Korg's part?

There is no manufacturing error. As mentioned by SKung the Kronos is actually a computer disguised as a synth. What I wrote earlier is exactly what you found : to connect the Kronos and your computer in FTP ; so you need a compatible USB-Ethernet adapter (not easy to find one) or a direct connection.Satish Rahi wrote:Thanks for the reply. For the direct connection, (of course only do this if your unit is not under warranty anymore) you simply connect the Kronos motherboard internal LAN port to a basic external router with a Ethernet cable and then to your computer. You can find a basic router for 10$ if you don't have one already. Then you configure the network/FTP settings and you are all done.

KK wrote:Ok, Ok .. I didn't get from your original message that Kronos LAN goes to the router. You still need Kronos to get a DHCP assigned IP address. I will try that since mine is no longer under warranty ...Satish Rahi wrote:Thanks for the reply. I didn't understand it though. More details, please ...You mean to open up the Kronos?

To be clear, there are three ways of connecting Kronos to PC :When I connect Kronos via USB (B - Printer Cable) to Windows 10 PC, Kronos does not show up as a Mass storage device.
1) It is not the Cable because the same cable works on my Extreme
2) Kronos has the latest OS (3.1.3).

1) Usb B -> ethernet adapter -> PC ethernet entry. This config suits for direct files transfers with soft like Filezilla.
2) Usb B -> PC USB entry. With the correct Korg driver, this config suits for sound editors.
3) Usb A -> storage device (UBB sitck, externel HDD, external SSD,...) -> PC Usb entry. Suits for files transfers.
So, if I've well undestood what you did, you used the second way wich can't work without a library manager. PC can't be used as a direct mass storage.

Thanks for the reply.
1) Usb B -> ethernet adapter -> PC ethernet entry
The issue here seems to be the correct USB ethernet adaptor. There is an approved list in Korg's manual. But comments here suggest that also may not work.
2) Usb B -> PC USB entry. With the correct Korg driver, this config suits for sound editors.
I have installed the only drivers available. It's the KORG USB-MIDI driver for Windows 10 (1.15 r38 e). MIDI works fine but it didn't help with File transfer
You did not mention using the Router and FTP , that's what I was going to try next .. by Opening KORG and running LAN cable to the router so KRONOS is on the Network (solution mentioned above).
And BTW, KORG phone support sucks . No one picks up the phone.
Not sure why connecting KRONOS to PC is not plug and play (like it was for Korg Extreme ) . KRONOS needs it more

I tried to get the recommended USB ethernet, they are old and not available. Not sure if KORG can help confirm what to buy that works with latest OS 3.1.1KK wrote:My solution was to simply connect the Kronos directly from its motherboard LAN port to the computer. Very easy mod and works just fine.
Absent the USB option, I opened the Kronos (the bottom panel). LAN port is not accessible, you have to open the side panel as well which does not seem to be easy. Can you confirm from the pic posted if that's the LAN (you can't see it from the bottom)
(Ok, I don't know how to attach pictures to the post)
Can you share how exactly you did it? How do close it back up with LAN wire inserted like that? Will appreciate if you can post a pic

Thanks, KK. Yes, mine is 61 key. So connecting to the LAN port on the motherboard directly is not an option.KK wrote:Hi Satish,
so maybe space is more limited if you have a 61-key. Is your Kronos a 61-key one ?
I need to know what USB Ethernet adaptor to buy that works. I had one that did not. Some of the ones recommended in the KRONOS manual (see below) are obsolete.
I have reached out to KORG support, I am hoping they will have a solution.
The problem I think is that USB ports in Kronos are not on the Motherboard, so Windows plug and Play does not work.
Don't know why KORG changed that design from Extreme. One would think connectivity to PC is an important feature. I have an Editor for Kronos that I would like to use on Windows but that requires connectivity ... It's nuts

----- From Manual, Recommended adaptors
The KRONOS supports a specific set of off-the-shelf USB
Ethernet adaptors. Supported devices as of May 2012 are
listed below.
• Apple USB Ethernet Adapter (MC704ZM/A)
• Cisco Linksys USB-300M
• TRENDnet TU2-ET100
• BUFFALO LUA3-U2-AGT
• BUFFALO LUA3-U2-ATX
• BUFFALO LUA-U2-KTX
• IODATA ETX3-US2
• Logitec LAN-TX/U2B
• Logitec LAN-TX/U2H3
• Planex UE-100TX-G3
Adaptors other than those listed above will not function
properly.

My theory now is that USB ports on Extreme are on the Motherboard, so it works fine with Windows PC. In Kronos, they are not.Satish Rahi wrote:It worked fine with Korg Extreme, hence the query.SKung wrote:Basically the Kronos is a regular desktop PC with a Intel mainboard and you cannot connect two PCs with a USB cable directly to use one as a mass storage device.
I guess Extreme was not a computer and Kronos is ?
usually, some KORG tech employees are on the forums, do we have anyone from KORG on this forum who reads and helps?
Hi Satish and sorry to read that there is not enough space in the 61-key version on the motherboard side to allow a connector in the LAN port.Satish Rahi wrote:Thanks, KK. Yes, mine is 61 key. So connecting to the LAN port on the motherboard directly is not an option.

About the list, I bought a TRENDnet TU2-ET100 as specified and it did NOT work, so it's still in its package. The model was correct but recent (2018), so from what I understood it seems something changed in the protocol used in those little adaptors as it's not seen by the Kronos. Hence why my recommendation for the DIY direct connection (when possible).
