TEX 61 POWER ISSUE?

Post by helminsen »

Hello,

I recently puchased a malfunction TEX 61 that looks to have been very well cared for and seen little use. It's mint both out- and inside but doesn't work obviously...

Here is the issues I have located:
- It boots up and have OS 1.0.5 and everything seems to work looking at the screen and lighted buttons
- Only the COMBI and PROG buttons work to the left of the screen (+ the realtime controls seem to work)
- To the right of the screen only the numeric 1 + 2 buttons work
- Only the bank buttons C + J work (but I can access all banks from the touch screen and it looks like all the programs and combis work)
- Last but not least, of the keys only the lower C work + all the G#, A# and C# across the entire keybed

I have tried to get into the diagnostic mode (Enter+5 at power up) but unable to do since the buttons isn't responsive.
Have also measured the power supply board (found instructions in a different topic here) and this looks to be working as it should.

I suspect it previously have had the full RAM + EXB MOSS board upgrade installed but by removing these it shouldn't afftect the basic operation of the keyboard?

Does anyone have ideas of what might be the issue(s) here and possible how to get it sorted?
Any ideas will be highly appreciated.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

I can confirm this - as I recently tried it - removing all sampler RAM memory cards and removing the MOSS board do not (should not) affect the basic operation of the keyboard.

The other items - they can probably be fixed. It seems the guts of your Triton are working OK. The keyboard issue may be a loose internal connector. Needing to replace the buttons is a common maintenance issue - if you can find the part(s). In either case, finding a technician experienced in servicing the Triton is recommended.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply bpoodoo,

I will then fully dismantle the synth and try to clean the buttons and also see if I can find a loose connector somewhere.

The seller told me that the synth worked flawlessly and he had a electrial problem in his house while the synth was still connected to power, and after this all these issues occured simultaneously...
Therefore I thought the power board might be the problem but as mentioned above I have measured the connectors and it all seems to deliver the power it should....
Do not fully trust the "electrical problem in the house" story from the seller though...
