Kronos X fan noise still relevant in 2022?

Post by omvibraphone »

Hey all, considering downgrading my LS88 to a Kronos X 61 due to weight and size issues. Is fan noise still an issue with X versions? I found some old threads on this topic but nothing very recent. So, did recent software updates offer fan options that eliminated noise etc? Or, in terms of this issue, would I be best to stick to the Kronos 2 61 version? Thanks for any input.

IIRC it wasn’t specific to the X. I’ve had an original and now an X 88. I have no issue with fan noise. It’s louder than my Moog One (which has had a lot of fan noise discussion :? ), but in my studio my external disks make the most noise.

Thanks for the reply. From what you're saying, the X still has fan noise despite software updates and (afaik) additional options to turn the fan off? My LS88 is 100% quiet, and for my requirements it would be vital that any replacement is equally silent.

Over the years, I've seen a couple of fan hardware upgrades posted here, but nothing easy.

If you turn the fan off how can it make a noise?

It doesn’t.

It's a fair point :-) I'm just not sure whether turning off the fan is an option in the X version, even with software updates. Can someone confirm?

The available fan settings on the Kronos X are Auto and Slow. There is no Off setting.

Technically not correct. One can opt to do this: http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... p?t=121491

or even more drastic, disconnect the fan all together (not recommended).
