New Korg Modwave Always Firmware Updates on Start

Post by Bobroberts2000 »

I just received my new Korg Modwave and right out of the box it updated firmware on power to 1.0.3. Each time I power off and on (using the power button on back) the machine updates the firmware again. I managed to get the firmware updated to 1.1.0, but now it updates to 1.1.0 every time I power cycle. I have tried leaving the unit unplugged overnight and this didn't solve the problem.

Does anybody have any suggestions? Thank you so much in advance for any help! :)

I'm sorry you're having difficulties. Can you describe exactly what you see on startup?

This happens on every start up right out of the box. I tried many times thinking I had just not let something finish or needed to unplug the power after I shutdown gracefully (power button). At this point it was showing the firmware as 1.0.3. I then used the update utility to update to firmware 1.1.0 thinking it just needed a successful firmware update via the app. Now it does this exact sequence every time, but when I look at the firmware version it shows 1.1.0.

Any help or advisement would be greatly appreciated! I ordered this off of Amazon, so if required I can return the unit, but if there is something simple I could do to avoid the issue it would be appreciated! :)

Follow up on this. Probably ready to throw in the towel and return the unit. Unfortunately no response besides the auto email from Korg support so I did more research. Found something about "Restore Boot Partition" and wanted to try it, but when I go into USB boot mode the PC acknowledges the device, but I get a device called "BCM2710 Boot" that can't find its driver. Weirdly the internet just flat out doesn't explain how to fix this. If anybody has ran into this with a solution it would be greatly appreciated! :)

Final post. After stumbling onto needing to add raspberry pi drivers to resolve the above I got the synth to connect and did a boot partition recovery. This did not solve the problem. Still in firmware loop. Also discovered that I can't import wavetables even if I wanted to live with the issue. Back the unit goes.

This was frustrating. I spent 20+ hours on this, mostly researching. Not a great experience.
