The case of the lost Program
I'm very happy with my Kronos 2 88 but I have always been confused by why, every time I switch it on, the list of Programs and Combis changes if I happen to have loaded a new set of instruments in the previous session.
I thought that the Kronos just uses Preload.PCG to load all its Programs when it is switched on? Why does the previous session affect what loads?
Anyway, I had found a marvellous Program in User Bank G in one session and had saved a Sequence using it. Stupidly, I did not save the current instrument/program set with this Song file. I then loaded another Song with its associated Program set and this overwrote User Bank G.
I have now lost my marvellous Program. I've tried loading every PCG file I've got on disk but none of them seem to include my Program. It was a complex, swirling Pad called, I think, Evolve.
If someone can point me in the direction of the set that might include this Program I would be grateful. Or, perhaps, you can tell me what I am not doing correctly that stops me seeing this Program when I load my PCGs?

All the new work and editing done in a Kronos is saved in internal memory when you save the program/combi/etc you create. When you load a PCG file, current contents of the internal memory is replaced by what is in the PCG you choose. So if you did important work, always save your stuff in a PCG file in Disk mode before loading a PCG file. The PRELOAD.PCG is just a copy of the original config of Programs, Combis and Global settings which are in your Kronos when brand new.

I think instead of "RAM" you mean "internal memory".KK wrote:All the new work and editing done in a Kronos is saved in RAM when you save the program/combi/etc you create. Short of a "Save All", saving a PGC file with each SNG file is a good strategy. I too have gone PGC file dumpster-diving trying to locate a lost program I used for a particular sequence.

There is a Program called Evolving, which appears by default in different locations, dependent on the Kronos version. For the K2, the Program is located in slot User AA008. If it's not there, go to Disk mode, tap on the FACTORY folder, and tap Open, select PRELOAD.PCG, and tap Open, select Programs and Open, then select Bank U-AA and Open. You should then see 008 Evolving. Select it, and play a few notes. If it sounds like the correct Program, tap on Load, whereupon a dialogue box will appear allowing the destination to be selected.
