Recording Audio Tracks in DAW

Post by patpsc »

Hello all,

I'm trying to use a DAW to record individual tracks from the PA4X(drums, bass, Perc, Acc1...Acc5), but I only get the recording in MIDI clips. Is there a way to set it up so that the recorded tracks are in audio Wav files?

Thanks,
Patrick

That would be nice - haven't found a way to do this with a Korg Arranger yet....
Roland multi-track audio works perfectly!!!

The closest I get to this is recording the PA4x (e.g. STYLE PLAY") and route the vocals to 1&2 outputs.
Then in Logic, I record both (keyboard and vocal multi-track) simultaneously - that gives me 2 stereo tracks in Logic.

You need an interface to achieve this - I use the Roland HS5 - best gear I ever bought - (I also route guitar through this and so can record 3 stereo audio tracks in Logic)

:D

You probably have your DAW set up to record to a midi track.

Remember you cannot send audio over a midi channel, you need to have an audio lead from Pa4X to your DAW interface. To keep the voices separated, you would need to play/record each voice independently, a fairly time consuming approach.

Depending on the software you are using, you may also have to realign the start position of the recorded track (eg if you just press record on the DAW, followed by play on the Pa4x, each audio track is going to have marginally different start times in the DAW project.)

Cubase13 Pro DAW software
Dorico Elements 5 scoring software

Best way to do so is :

Find a daw that can easily be adjusted to record MIDI multitrack ,but also that works great as slave(you want to start recording right when you hit a key on pa4x,right? )

I found a long time ago that Cakewalk's daw is fine for this.Just google sync midi with cakewalk,to find out the settings you have to set once.

Step two : Multirecord your midi tracks at once in daw .
Now you will have 8 midi tracks ,plus 4 (upper1-3 +Lower)if you use your right hand too ,plus 4more if you wanna record any pads .So all these tacks are ready.

Step 3 : Export midi tracks idividually as stereo or mono wav tracks and make sure you check the option to re-import them in your project.

Now you have both midi tracks and audio tracks.
You can change anything you want on the fly .
No worries about syncing tracks.
Better option is to use some VST sounds on some tracks as well .
Hope it helped!!!!

Thanks everyone for providing your tips. I'm a little confused on Step 3 of Korg1 that "Export midi tracks individually as stereo or mono wav tracks..."

So it is possible to export these midi tracks into audio Wav track?

I'm using Ableton Live as my DAW.

DAW MIidi OUT TO Pa4x Midi In
Pa4x Midi Out to daw's midi in .
This way you can record midi in daw,and playback to pa4x, unless you wanna use some kind of VST instruments instead of pa4x.

In case you wanna use Vst Instruments, you don't need to mess up with audio out from pa4x to daw.

In case you keep using pa4x,then you must send your pa4x's L+R---->daw .

So,
-Midi out from pa4x goes to daw,the result is the multitrack midies.
-Midi out from daw goes to pa4'x Midi in for playback the midis
-Pa4x's audio out L+R goes to your soundcard In for daw, in order to record each midi track into audio track.

Then, create new audio tracks in daw and record idividually each midi track into audio track.

If you wanna use Vst Intrsuments, you just bounce the audio tracks automatically.

Now I got it. Thank you.

As you mentioned about the use of VST instruments, it is probably a shorter process if we can create the VST instruments and drum kits for the PA4X. But that's another difficult task :D

Again, thank you all for your replies.

I'm very disappointed that Korg did not allow the mic to go to 1 or 2 or L or R. It's L&R or 1&2. I wanted to send the drums and bass out to 1 or 2 which I can but the mic is there. If I switch the mic to L&R it also has my keyboard playing.
Just dumb routing options!
