Pa5X vs. Genos... Owners...?
I have noticed that a few of the people on here who own the Pa5X - also own the Genos...
Was just wondering what their thoughts were on both...?
Which do you "prefer"... or...?

Which do you "prefer"... or...?
My subjective thoughts after viewing literally a hundred YouTube videos featuring both are...
The Genos sounds more like a "live" instrument would sound...
And the Pa5X sounds more like what a instrument would sound like after having been professionally recorded in the studio.
If that makes any sense...

Where to start?
Lets start with the good thing, both sound great, which sounds better? Thats personal preference.
Then the hardware. I prefer the korg Keybeds, they are a bit more weighted and give better control. On top of that the Genos keys are slightly smaller then the standard of all other key manufactorers. For a 76 keybed this is about 1 1/2 keywidth in total. When swapping between yamaha and other keys this slightly influence automation.
Both are build like a truck.. where the Genos might look plasticky, its actually very very strong and durable due to plastick being a little more flexible then metal.
Where the big difference is, that is in the interface. The korg has dozens of features lacking on the genos that give more direct control over the styles.. yamaha’s are designed to play with performance memmories and its best to preprogram all the steps and add those as performace steps to the songbook. Korg uses the songbook in a more traditional way. You choose your performance and then play the arranger as an arranger making chocies in real time.. i realy like how the keyboard sets work, a feature not available on the Genos..
I think yamaha sa2 voices are still one step ahead of the Korg DNC voices. Same goes for Organs, while the Korg has a better sounding B3, the Yamaha has several other virtual organ models like a wersi on board.
Where Korg shines is the edditing and creation of things. Be it styles, midi files, recordings or sounds. Korg is lightyears ahead of Yamaha. You can make the Korg sound like you…
Where Genos shines is the huge collection of free styles and sounds available…. All paid expansion packs from earlier thros models come for free now and the community shares their own creations mostly for free, where the Korg community is much more professional and tries to sell their own created brews..
Yamaha has some features the korg does not, like arpegiator and knobs which have some very orriginal options tied to them.
Korg made a huge step withthe Pa5x, dual player and the 16 pads take it one level further. Altough there is still a lot left to be desired. Like audio tempo sync with midi and the Kaoss we know from the pa4x
In the end, the Korg to me is the one you want on stage while the yamaha is still created mostly with home users in mind.
Oh and another thing, Korg has the most extensive manuals in the music buiz..

My son goes to an elementary art school. He plays the Genos in it and complains a lot about the keys of the Genos, he doesn't want to play it. That the keys are smaller explains a lot, I didn't know that. Besides, he also complains that they are slippery.

Hello,
in this discussion a number of falsehoods are said in connection with Genos.
I have both Pa5x 76 and Genos lined up together and I think I can speak to a real time experience.
First and foremost, they are both fantastic instruments, but each in their own way.
What Bachus says is largely correct.
Yamaha is a very large company, they build almost all acoustic instruments themselves and know perfectly how instruments should sound and you will experience that in the Genos!
Korg against that is a small company, also the reason why the updates take so long.
Yamaha had its new Genos ready within the year!!!
@Karmathanever Calling Genos a "Tyros 6" is just saying you don't know what you are talking about, sorry!
I know what I can do with Genos that I shouldn't think about with Pa5x!!
To give an example, yamaha's registration system is unique and super fast and stores everything anything per registration from effects to assignable knobs!!!
What many don't know is that Tyros 5 and Genos are used for recording in studios in America! probably because these "sound artificially plastic"!!
I love my Pa5x 76 and its number of great features, but korg still has a lot of work to do to match the current Genos!!
PS: the competition may start shaking when the new "Genos"?? successor is released, and I will blindly order it!

Thank you (so kind)!!Yamko wrote:@Karmathanever Calling Genos a "Tyros 6" is just saying you don't know what you are talking about, sorry!
Well I do!! I was closely involved with the original Genos pre-announcement (before public) and Yamaha presented it as a Tyros 6 - yes, using those words!!!
I've owned Tyros and was very keen to investigate the Genos and differences - so much of Genos (in reality and in documentation) is very similar to Tyros.
Yes, I know it has new features (and a joystick, and a touch screen) which are improvements. Sound quality is subjective and so I won't go there - it's pointless but to say that I've always loved Yamaha sounds.
I didn't make that statement without genuine experience.

Well After 22 years as a Seller of Keyboards, and Knowing YAMAHA inde out, YES GENOS is a TYROS with Touchscreen,
In so many years they did not do so much to improve much.
Minor things only, and same BAD YEM.
So YES its a GENOS with minor improvements.
Out of the BOX , great KB anyway, EXPENSIVE AS HELL.
I had 5 of them,
They promised great features that never come out.
If they let us to do better edits on Sounds etc, YES, better and easier Style editor YES, more and NEWER sounds, Not recycling the old T3 sounds.
Not just some new KICKS and Snares (REMO) not just some Strings, (KINETIC) i mean REAL things from todays sounding.
For now, We wonder, IF G2 is coming with a better Screen only

Next to that the korg (76 and 61) feels a lot nicer. The Genos FSR action is still to light for my prefferencespetr14 wrote:My son goes to an elementary art school. The OS and the hardware both had a complete overhaul. Not only looks, but also where speed is considered, as it feels much more dynamic the the T5.

"Well, 3 more
Friends of mine have also left Korg.
Me,,, yes I'm
Also dripping this and trying to go over to Yamaha or Ketron.
This can't be the Korg I was in love with.
Not even close.
What will they say now,
Well I really don't care about that!
You blow hot and cold at the same time!!!!
I read "after 22 years selling keyboards and fully knowing YAMAHA"
I think you don't know or have explored the Genos very well, because then you wouldn't write such things!!
PS "fully knowing" I would be very careful about that
And another thing, the Pa5x also still has the sounds of Pa3x or have you not tested that??
We all hope that the next update (June) will be a real improvement!!
