How do I adjust the audio recording volume on the Nautilus?

Post by mate »

Recording level in Audacity is 100 % but recording level is still very low. I have to amplify about +20 dB and it cause some noise.

Can i increase USB Audio level in Korg Nautilus?

Is the intended recording being made using Audacity or the Nautilus. Also, what is the topology of the setup? Is there an audio interface being used, and how are the various parts connected?

Yes, I try to make recording using Audacity. I've connected Nautilus to the computer via a USB cable and I'm trying to make a recording with Audacity.

Recording level is very low in Audacity. Can I adjust output USB recording level higher in Nautlus?

The Nautilus USB audio out data should have a good signal level.

Using the playing method (Program, Combination, Sequencer) that you're hoping to record with, what setting of the main volume control is required for a comfortable headphone listening level?

In the Audacity user interface, what are the settings for Audio Host, and for Recording Device?

If I adjust Program, Combination-volumes to highest position, the output level is too low even then.
Comfortable headphone listening level (Master Volume) is about 60%

In the Audacity user interface Audio Host is MME and Recording Device: Viiva (2-Nautilus)

Not sure if this setting affects USB audio output level, but you might try setting
Auto +12 dB On
(p.131 Operations Manual)

Else, add an effect that has an adjustable gain setting (compressor, limiter, etc.) to boost output audio level.

There isn't a Nautilus here to try this out at the moment but, using a Kronos (the two keyboards, of course, share many features), connected to an ancient Win XP PC via USB, and with Audacity running with Audio Host set to MME and Recording Device set to KRONOS, Audacity shows nothing on the recording level.

When the Audio Host setting is changed to Windows Direct Sound, the Recording Level display in Audacity now responds with a healthy -6 to -3dB level, and recordings can be made, without any issues. There is no need to add in any further gain. Don't forget to click on Audacity's recording level meter to activate it after making the change. Hope this helps with the Nautilus.
