Korg Pa5X tutorial: Revoicing midi files

In this tutorial we are going to take a look how we can improve the sound of old midi files by revoicing them and using effects on them. This is a very easy process to do on the korg pa5x and with those thousends of midi files out there we can get a lot of songs on our pa5x to practice our parts with it or just have fun playing along with them
I will give you some tips how to easily use midi files to learn complex chords or solo's and how to quickly set repeat parts in midi files to practice along.

Topics:
00:00 DEMO: September (Earth Wind and Fire)
00:38 introduction midi files
01:32 loading midi files
03:54 revoice process
10:23 using EQ, Limiter and effects
15:13 compare the original versus the revoiced one
16:17 score tracks and lyrics
18:29 setup practice parts in songs

Qui: Thank you for this tutorial! I have been doing a lot of re-voicing of some of the midi files I used in my old Pa3xle and you have really opened up the process for the 5x. The EQ, Limiter and Effects section especially informative for me. I also like the marker setup. This can be of great use in live playing of midi files! The ability to stretch out arrangements could be easily done I think.

One hassle with some midi files that crops up occasionally is some midi files have a marker that re-sets sounds that is difficult to get rid of. Have you found a process for deleting unneeded re-sets?

The use of markers in live situations really allows use of midi files live. The ability to bounce forward or backward, loop, etc is now a possibility! Big smiles here!!

Thanks again for your tutorial!! 8)

yes, it's easy to do, in some cases the midi file has program changes in the middle of songs. In revoicing cases like the ones showed in the tutorial you don't want that.

to remove them, press song edit, then go to the event edit page, filter the notes, you will see the program changes, delete the program changes in that screen

if you want to keep a program change at the beginning of your marker, then just move that program change to the marker location or insert a new program change on that marker location. In most cases they put a program change before the quantised marker location, so when you work with markers it would omit that program change in such a user scenario, so then you have to move it to the beginning of the location of remove it.

yes for that specific song you can more or less use it as a style with the intro variations and endings.

I've created a more indepth tutorial for that earlier this year:

Amazing, I guess even if the midi to style bot is missing, I can live with it "for a while".

Qui: Thanks for the info and Great video tutorial.
