Nautilus completes my trio

Mine just came in, yesterday. Nice to see wavesequencing used on a lot of patches. Responds nicely to my Kronos vector stick, knobs, ribbon, etc. While KARMA is amazing, I'm happy to see programmable arps. Similar to Triton, but easier to input.

Wow, the 1.8 gig RAM Preload is streaming 23 gigs of samples from Disk. Pretty good memory management with that selection. I will go through it and maybe deselect some of the multi-gig sized items, so I can fit more of my samples, like I did on Kronos.

I like that Page, Mode, and Sequencer buttons can be physical interface and on screen. COMPARE and Sampling functions can be assigned to physical buttons, as well. Missing the PADS function though, which was handy for assigning a chord to each key press. Maybe in an update?

Though they work well, My OASYS is 19 years old, and the Kronos X is around 12. I want to ensure my work flow for the foreseeable future. I have a substantial investment in sound libraries, that I want to back up. So glad that Korg now allows 3 units to share libraries.

Nice setup Mike. Personally, I skipped the Kronos but still have the Oasys and now the Nautilus in my studio. I branched towards the PA series with the Pa3Xle and the Pa5x which I found more productive in my song writing. Different strokes for different folks. Good to see you still around.

You have some awesome boards, Eric! That interface on the PA5X is lovely.

Kronos is my hub for everything. It holds more than 10X sample library data than the OASYS. Same is true for Nautilus. I have the K chock full. Just got 2 new libraries, this week. Nautilus will give me some breathing room. Compared to OASYS and Kronos with all the controls up front, it is a bit like looking through a keyhole, but it's the same machine, regarding how I'll use it.

Hi Mike, congratulation for your decision !
If select the chords pad on key in Kronos you could import the combi with chords on key in Nautilus. Unfortunately no way to edit in Nautilus.

Someone on another forum asked me for a screen comparison, so I posted this pic, where OASYS, Kronos, Nautilus are on the Track Edit page:




Despite the Nautilus having a smaller screen, the UI is pretty good, with a nice color scheme. Again, I appreciate that I can use both on screen and physical buttons for the sequencer and other functions. I think that all devices should be like that, in case you ever have a physical switch fail.

Look at all of those program banks!!!

The Nautilus has 40 regular banks (5120), plus 10 GM banks(1280) equaling 6,400 programs. Amazing! That might be a record for hardware. Does anybody know of gear with more capacity? My previous champ was the Virus TI, with 30 banks.


I've loaded about 33 KSC libraries into Nautilus. I had to unload a few piano banks to do so, per RAM limitation.




The only time I have an issue is when one of my user libraries refers to a Kronos sample folder, such as EXs5, which doesn't exist on Nautilus.

I use Drum Kits to refer to individual samples (as opposed to multisamples that programs require). The Nautilus froze about 6 times when I tried playing drum keys that referred to certain EXs5 samples. I restarted it, then changed the samples without pressing the keyboard.

I wish there was a way to exit out of a situation like a freeze. Perhaps someone has a solution other switching off, then restarting?
