Style Edit: Import/Export

Post by patpsc »

Hello all,

I tried to create an Intro part using the 5X's Song Mode and saved it as a MID file (with the correct assigned midi channels). Now I want to import this midi file into the Style Intro tracks. When I'm in the Style edit mode, I selected the Import/Export tab and select my Intro midi file, it won't load the file. Is this function not working yet in the 5X? or something wrong with my
Midi file?

Thank you.

Midi has to be in midi 0 version and has correct markers, midi 1 won't be loaded.

Thank you. I thought the Korg PA5X 16-track sequencer will save Midi file in midi 0 format.

So it sounds like the two processes are not compatible - exporting a song as a MIDI and then importing it again as a edit/reg new style? Is that what I am hearing?

As mentioned in another location in this forum, the error handling in this space is non existent. No error messaging to tell you that the type is incorrect or the track numbers or patch numbers are incompatible. Nothing. Something would be better than nothing, right?

So far what I have figured out what works as a MIDI to style import is as follows:

1. Midi Type = 0 (I have had success in importing a midi type =1 so I am not sure how true this rule is).
2. Channels 9 - 16 only
3. Channel 9 is bassline
4. Channel 10 is drums
5. Channel 11 is percussion (optional, not sure)
6. Channel 12-16 Accomp 1 - 5 (again not sure)
7. No SFF2 markers
8. No sInt markers
9. Main A = v1cv1 etc 1-4
10. Intro A = i3cv1
11. Fill In AA = f1cv1 etc. 1-4
12. Ending AA = e3cv1, B=e2cv1 and A=e1cv1
13. Break = brvc1
14. No open space in the start of the tracks. They all should start on 1:01. All empty tracks should be deleted.
15. Any duplicate fn:xx markers to be deleted from the file.

I am still working on these rules to determine what works and what does not work.

Qui, welcome if you can confirm the rules above and edit please.

Hi, why wouldn’t you just record the intro in the style creator rather than in song mode?

If you have a pc sequencer , add the “intro 1 “marker , save as midifile 0, and try importing.

If you just exported it and you want to import it again, you have to have ''Shift'' key pressed when you chose the midi file, otherwise it will load only 32 bars of it at the element you are in on that time (for example at intro 1),so make sure you press shift key....

If still doesn't work, then i don't know what else to say about this keyboard....

Hi, don’t think PA5x is fully functional yet in regards to its editing capabilities . Been a few years since I sold my PA4x, pretty sure there were more functions for editing of songs.

I do any style editing that can’t be done with onboard style editing functions in my pc sequencer ( I still use my old XGWORKS).
I used to convert some of my old psr factory styles across to Korg. Unfortunately newer factory styles ( sx, Genos)can be too difficult , drumkits are no longer just xg, guitar tracks can be a problem, some voices have different sounds depending on the octave track is record in. etc.

I’ve ended up doing a few hybrid styles ie the tracks that cause problems for converting ie drums, sometimes bass , guitar, I try and find similar or suitable PA5x tracks for those
and use, piano , strings, brass etc from my psr styles.
I just do a quick psr to Korg conversion.
Load Korg style in player 1, conversion in player 2 and I can audition which tracks work together . Then I copy the tracks across and do final editing of settings. Found that easier than trying to remap psr drums or work out why the guitar’s aren’t play back correctly.

Plan on doing that with some of the old Korg legacy styles ie if the drums sound dreadful, replace them with a PA5x drum track.

Certainly no need to be short on styles😁
best wishes

If you write it on keyboard and not by using a daw ,why you don't write it in first place through style edit mode? I think it's easier.

If you still prefer to do it via sequencer, then yes, you also have to save it,then go to songplay mode, add markers there and name them properly, then use the import function to import it on a style.
