Karma - jazz Piano, Bass and drums

Post by stuartpryer »

Hi,

Quick question. When i had my Korg Oasys i had a nice jazz patch set up. It used Karma GE 508 Jazz Club from memory. The instruments used were a Piano, double bass and a drum accompaniment. I could play the piano along with a bass accompaniment which used Karma to produce the its sequence from the Piano chords. It's a long time since i used this on an Oasys and Ive preordered a Kronos 3 and want to replicate it. The bass was riff was generated by the Karma GE and I think the drums were linked to karma. On the kronos how do I set this up as either a program or combi? Or is there a program or combo set up for this already? I have not got a Kronos to play with for a few weeks.

Thanks

Stuart

Can you remember the name of the original OASYS Combi?

KARMA GE 508 Jazz Club (nnnNice...) is present, as standard, in the Kronos and, based on Stephen's comments, is going to remain unchanged in the forthcoming Kronos 3.

A while back I asked and received (thank you Stephen) a spreadsheet for the og KARMA WS of each Combi/Progs with the respective GE's plus...
Stephen has provided similar types of info on KLF, when he is able to. The same must exist for each workstation.

If someone were so inclined to ask nicely...

The GE definitely is included in the Kronos 1+2, see the Voice Name List VNL on the Korg website.
I'd conclude it is also included in the K3.

Hi,

I can't remember the name of the Oasys Combi. But it basically had a Piano and a bass. The great thing about it was I could play Piano with both hands and have Karma generate the bass line which followed and evolved around my chords. There was also an appropriate drum track. Trouble is I last used it 12 years ago so just can't remember combi?

cheers

I took a look in the KARMA Oasys Software, which has the ability to tell me which Combis a particular GE is used in. Problem is, the GE you mention "GE 508 Jazz Club" is apparently not used in ANY combis; only a few programs (which would not have had the ability to have another GE playing bass or drums at the same time). That GE is a riff type GE; not drums, so I assume maybe it's a bass riff? The OAYSY did not have a drum track feature, either - so it would have HAD TO be a combi if it had both bass and drums. I also took a look in the 3 Combi sets we sold for the Oasys and it is not used in any combis there, either. So I don't know what to tell you...

Have you tried looking at the OASYS Voice Name List and checking the Combi Names for something that rings a bell? Here is a link:

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for your help. My memory is a bit vague on the Oasys combi and progs I used 12 years ago. I guess it's probably easier just to recreate it. Would these be the steps?

1. Create a combination with a piano, bass and drums.
2. Use the 'bass riff GE' triggered from my piano midi notes to play the bass ?
3. would I then Link the Drum track to Karma to control the rhythm ?

Is this too simplistic? Without a Kronos here I'm kinda guessing :-) I looked at the Oasys combi list and nothing sprang to mind. Only other thing I can think of is if the lead instrument was say an elec piano or some other instrument with bass. Strange thing is the Jazz Club GE did stick in my memory? Maybe I swapped a another GE to Jazz club?

Does karma on the Kronos have a combi which might do what Im after so I can just swap the lead instrument program to piano? All I know is that it was a fantastic combi to play with! Like having a jazz trio in your front room, The bass riff was so variable and dynamic :-)

That you

Stuart

Stephen, is it possible to upload a list (.CSV) like that for the Kronos and Oasys?
