Changing beats per measure on Pa5X

Post by ptine610 »

When playing a song with 4 beats per measure, is it possible to have the "break" key only last for 2 beats? There are a few 2/4 measures in "Hey Jude" that I can't get the timing correct. I've looked through the Pa5X manual but was unable to locate. Thank you in advance...

You can use multi time signature of any Style element in Pa5X but you can define it before start
writing at it , therefore a Break that was written in 4/4 time signature can not be altered to 2/4.

If you want to alter time signature of 4/4 Break element , you have to delete all midi events and
then you can alter it to any time signature.

There is one of my tricky ways to retain midi events of 2 bars that can be as described bellow.
Always talking for styles written in User area an not factory positions that can't be altered.
- Clone original style in another user position.
- Edit original Style's Break element , delete all midi events and then set time signature 2/4 and 2 bars
record some notes of bass for instance and stop recording , 2/4 & 2 bars have been registered.
- Then copy from Clone Style Break 4/4 & 1 bar to current Style's Brake 2/4 & 2 bars one by one tracks.
- Then delete 1st or 2nd bar of Break 2/4 and save Style
- Done

Hope this helps

Anthony - thank you for taking the time to answer my question and explaining the steps. I am basically looking to change a factory setting for a particular song in Songbook, so it sounds like this cannot be done. Also admittedly, the steps that you've outlined are way above my knowledge level as far as the Pa5X is concerned. Perhaps one day I'll get there, but I'm not there yet. Again, thank you for taking the time to respond as it is much appreciated.

A half bar break option that can be assign to a button would be a nice edition for the next update.

When you want to modify meters & measures of a factory Style you have by definition to copy Style in user
area and then modify it , this was always the rule to customize a style.
Kaoss have some presets to do this half measures job somewhere but this is not a proper solution.

Other option that I've done so far for my Pa4X for changing 4/4 Break to 2/4 Break, would be:

1- Export your Break (Style Element) as SMF,
2- Edit it in a DAW,
3- Import it back (as SMF in Format 0) to your Pa5X.

Hope that helps.
