HELP: MIDI Timeout??? (microKontrol)

Post by N.O.W.™ »

Hello. I have a microKONTROL that has been giving me some headaches the last couple of days. I keep getting the following message "MIDI Timeout" every time I try to transmit or receive data. I want to set up the scene data for Logic, but can't seem to get my head around this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I loaded from the Librarian disc as opposed to the file of it on my harddrive. Worked like a charm.

Sorry Man, not sure what you mean exactly! Did you install the version of Librarian that comes on the disk that was shipped with the keyboard as opposed to downloading it and installing the web version?

I actually inserted the disc and loaded directly off of the disc.

Hi.

I'm having the same problem, and can't seem to find the answer anywhere.
I've tried to insert the disc with the editor on, but it only contains a installfile, not the program itself. So I can't do the same thing. Everytime I run the disc it starts the Installwizard and im not able to do anything else.

I was wondering if anybody solved the MIDI timeout problem some other way than inserting the original disc? I would love to find out, cause I'm kind of prohibited by the default settings, and I'm very keen on setting it just the way I wan't.

Thanx

God damn. N.O.W. is an ass.

To get rid of the "Midi Timeout" error, you first have to place your Microkontrol in "Dump mode". You do this by hitting "SCENE" + Pad 14 (Pad 14 is labelled "DUMP", but is not explicitly numbered).

Enjoy!

MIDI Timeout, and crashes

Post by nickthegreek »

I'm having the same problem with the microKontrol Librarian. I'm using a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.10, and the latest driver (1.0.7).

Pressing either "Receive" or "Transmit" results in a "MIDI Timeout" error. (A little window pops up that says "MIDI Timeout" in it – no other description.) Changing the scene to "Dump" doesn't have any effect.

There's another thread on this problem at

http://www.korgforums.com/forum/phpBB2/ ... d157482e20

by the way, but I wasn't sure where to post.

I made the mistake of upgrading to the 1.07 USB-MIDI driver on my Mac G5 w/ OS X 10.4.11 and experienced the same problem. Using the Dump command did not clear the issue for me either.

Odd how the microKONTROL would work with my host apps (Logic, DSP-Quattro) and stand alone software synths (KLC and NI Komplete), but not with the microKONTROL Editor! Go figure.

Tried to fall back to v1.04 and 1.06 using the installers from the Korg UK support site, but they wouldn't install. I don't trust the installers are working correctly as the 1.04 file from the Korg UK site had a .sit extension, but the file was actually a .dmg. I could not locate the old USB-MIDI drivers elsewhere.

Here's how I successfully resorted to uninstalling 1.07 on my Mac. Please exercise caution if your not comfortable doing this sort of thing, I'd hate for you to foul something up by mistake.

I removed KorgUSBMIDIDriver.plugin from:

/Library/Audio/MIDIDevices/Korg/KorgUSBMIDIDriver.plugin

and then removed advKorgUSBMIDIDriver.plugin from

/System/Library/Extensions/advKorgUSBMIDIDriver.plugin

I then did a reboot on my Mac and subsequently used the Remove Device command in the Audio MIDI Setup application to delete the microKONTROL definition that corresponded to the 1.07 update.

Also, following the reboot I noticed a new, generic definition for the microKONTROL in Audio MID Setup. I'm assuming OS X recognized the mK as a class compliant USB device since I'd not installed any other device driver after the reboot. The mK is now working with the Editor again.

For the record, I booted my Mac from my backup hard drive running 10.4.8 which did not have the USB-MIDI driver 1.07 installed and the Editor worked just fine with mK. So the question is: does the Editor need updating to work with the 1.07 driver or vice versa?

HTH.

I'm using the 1.07 driver with a Microkontrol (and the OSX editor) and have never had any problems...

Really? That's great. Are you running a PPC or Intel Mac? Panther or Leopard?

I'd like to follow up on this thread and mention I met with success using the recent 1.08 KORG USB-MIDI Driver.

When running the microKONTROL Editor Librarian, using the Search option under Preferences still fails with the message "Can't find microKONTROL.", but unlike the 1.07 USB-MIDI Driver - the transmit and receive of Scene Sets actually works regardless.

I'm still not certain what is gained by using the driver as opposed to allowing the Mac OS to acknowledge the microKONTROL as a class compliant USB device, under Audio MIDI Setup, but there you have it. Perhaps this isn't feasible for Intel Mac user's and the driver is required?

Regards.
