Hey guys, I have to make a decision on this by Saturday morning
I write a lot of orchestral (piano/strings/woodwinds) pieces.
My music store I go to all the time is selling PCMs for C H E A P due to a Memorial Day/Store moving sale. The guy I talked to said they were selling them way below cost just to move 'em out.
I've got my eye on the Studio Essentials one and the Orchestral Collection one.
Has anyone here used these expansions, and what would be better orchestral music?
Could you all put up a review of each to help me make a decision on which one to buy, and maybe what kinds stuff are on each? Even a link would be helpful.
I don't have a lot of money so if I can get the Orchestral collection for $100 or under I'm thinking seriously about getting that one just because of the deal, but would it be worth it? I've heard the Studio Essentials one is really good but have never used or heard recordings from either.
What's your opinion?
Thanks in advance!!

Studio Essentials or Orchestral Collection?

Hi!
To be honest, no one could do better than you what suites your own needs...
From what I've red, the orchestral exb should be the best to buy, as I think it's great to have a compact version of Peter Sidzlack orchestra into a Triton.
If you play live, studio essential is great...
I would be interested in buying a piece of studio essential: could you please tell me the price of that EXB?
can you give me some contacts of that shop?
I would love to buy that EXB.
thanks a lot

Hey buddy, sorry it took so long to get back to you
Ok Here's the store
Mom's Music
Louisville, KY

That sale is only going on today and tomorrow (Fri-Sat) but they have one or two of these kinds of sales every year. I'm not sure how many of those EXB's or what they have, but I do know they didn't have the Orchestral collection so I ended up buying the studio essentials one. Not sure how many of those they had so they may be out of them... worth a try anyway to see what they have... you could probably get the MOSS board for pretty durn cheap. I got the Studio Essentials for $80 and it retailed at $240.
So anyway hope that helps you out!

Probably the best thing to do is to look at the PDF's of the 2 boards and decide which sounds you prefer the most.

http://www.korg.com/downloads/pdf/EXB0102OM.pdf
Keep in mind that the EXB01020M pdf has the listing for 2 boards,
the EXB 01 (PIANOS/CLASSIC KEYBOARDs) and EXB 02 (STUDIO ESSENTIALS).
You should only consider the EXB 02 data for a realistic depiction of the sounds of the Studio Essentials board.

Well, I think for what you say you intend to do,you should get both.
I´ll try to give you a clue, if you have to choose, though.
The two orchestral chips are more specific, more to get subtle sounds for subtle details, or to use in certain ways to get certain sounds, as any dedicated library. The Studio Essentials has more inmediate sounds, more scope, and covers some other sounds apart form the ones of the classic orchestra. For example The Choirs are superb, if you ask me.
And those sounds are not present in the Extreme.
Hope it hepls.
