import sound program from Extreme

Post by sabojka »

Hi guys,
my friends and I just got the M3-61. Really impressive.
We were wondering if it is possible to import sound programs from Triton Extreme. If so, it will be perfect for us since we need to replace Extreme with M3, instead of carrying 2 keyboards sometimes.

Best regards,
Rami

No, the engines are different.

i was afraid of that. I knew the engines were different, but the fact that Extreme was discontinued because of the arrival of M3 gave me hope that this could be possible

You can always sample Extreme to M3.
If you buy additional memory you could have 320 MB of RAM - that's a lot of samples.
Try finding similar preset multisamples on both keyboards. No matter the engines are different, programing basics are the same.

If you have both keyboards, you could try to reproduce the Extreme programs on the M3. This would require going through the various screens on the Extreme (samples, filters, effects, etc.) and trying to setup something similar in the M3.

You would then "A/B" the sounds and try to make adjustments.

You wouldn't be able to do this on all of the sounds since the underlying samples are not the same, however you might be able to do this for a handful of your favorite programs.

yes, and it's just I'm trying to do with mine (triton-m3)

- 1st you have to analyze samples on two machines (more of them are in m3 but not all, keep the best of two, it's long to do)

- analyze keyranges on every multisamples you want to keep (include exbs)
it's hard and long :?

- resample and edit (truncate, normalize loop..) for these is very long

- reassign key ranges following original multisample, long too

- and finally recreate programs using these multisamples (two synthesis are similars with more power on m3 but some parameters can change like env time)

a lot of time is required to do this for 1 person (hundreds of hours)

I don't know if it's authorized to resample YOUR synth to another YOUR's, but I've already done a few multisamples of my triton with it's exbs (40-50) for a few days !
but no programs

From Korg to Korg isn't so hard - they have some (or most) similar multisamples and parameters.
Editing parameter after parameter is hard just with first sound, later you will learn what parameters on M3 match to those on Extreme.
I even managed to find similar basic sounds on N364 and Extreme, programmed few sounds on N364 that sounded very good, and found similar multisamples on Extreme, adjusted parameters and got even better sound on Extreme.
So it should work on M3 too, engine is different, but not radically different.
Regarding sampled sounds, I don't see problem there - who can forbid you to sample YOUR keyboard to another keyboard of yours?
It's not violation of some author rights or something like that, I think.
I even sampled other brand keyboards to Extreme.
You make the sound that sounds the same as the original sound, but still it isn't exactly THE SAME sound.
analyze keyranges on every multisamples you want to keep (include exbs)
it's hard and long Confused

- resample and edit (truncate, normalize loop..) for these is very long

- reassign key ranges following original multisample, long too
Why do you need to do that? M3 reads the same KSF as the Extreme.
Do you refer to preset multisamples (ROM) or your multisamples (RAM)?

I was refering to rom sample of triton of course, I should be stupid to convert kmp file into kmp file :D

this is why I'm not sure if it's authorized to resample triton rom (the best of it) to include it into m3...

I understand you're not stupid from your post, you know the knowledge, just wasn't clear which multisamples, so I wondered...
No hard feelings.
:D
Still, I think it's OK to sample Triton to M3. They're your keyboards, you paid for them, you use them, you make your samples. What's illegal about that?
If we would think about that, then probably every one of us is a bit criminal.
And what evidence can one have that you sampled some keyboard? Similarity of sound?

why doesn't korg offer free sound transfer programs from the tex to m3 like how yamaha provided its users from the es to the xs.

Someone mentioned Stephen Kay is working on converting software from triton to M3, but don't hold your breath, I don't believe it's going to happen...

They say there is too many differences between sound engines of those two so that's the main problem. I don't see those big differences but if they say soo, than it probably is that way.

I guess, you will not see something like that happen, because, the samples on the m3 are mostly new on the acoustic side (and almost identical/similar on the electronic side). They are different and it would be impossible to make the m3 soundig like triton (extreme).
What I definitely don't like is, that most of the combinations seems to be programmed like some demo stuff, just to show you how all things can play together with the help of 4 karma modules.
I miss some great long evolving pads from combies on my old triton, le, tr, karma.
And I definitely miss the non acoustic sounds from triton, le, tr, tex. Oh yes, and the organs are, well not weak, but if you look at the number of organ rom samples, they are almost less than on the original triton.

it's true that triton have more organs samples, and with exb01 a lot more...

but i've sampled them :D

and organs don't use a lot of synthesis parameters, so now, my m3's organs will sound like my triton's ones and maybe better with additionnal FX

and in combi mode, with 16 timbres you can do a "multi drawbars" organ if you've got drawbars samples :D

i've done a dozen of triton programs on m3 and they sounds a little different than originals but spirit of them is keeped...

No.
I saw a topic on this forum and someone wrote in his post that Stephen Kay is going to convert Extreme to M3, or that he said so, are that is maybe going to happen.
I tried to find that particular post, but forgot where it was, in which forum section.
Don't get this as spreading some misinformations, probably there is nothing to it.
