PCGs for Bank E ?

Post by tripecac »

I've had my Triton since 2000 and have yet to use the "E" bank.

I'd like to try some of the PCG packages out there (e.g., Rose Acoustica) but am worried about overwriting anything in banks A-D.

Here are my questions:

1) How can I be 100% sure that a .PCG file will only overwrite bank E instead of banks A-D?

2) Is there a .PCG viewer/editor which lets me examine a .PCG file before installing it on the Triton?

3) If I like half the programs from one .PCG and half from another .PCG, is there a utility that makes it easy to create a combined .PCG of my favorites?

Thanks!

If you select the PCG file, then touch OPEN, you can view the contents inside the file.
It should say INT-E in for the Programs.

You can actually select this INT-E bank within the PCG file and load it from there too if you like. This way even if it says INT-A or anything else, you can still load it into INT-E.
2) Is there a .PCG viewer/editor which lets me examine a .PCG file before installing it on the Triton?
Yep, search the forums for librarians, and editors.
3) If I like half the programs from one .PCG and half from another .PCG, is there a utility that makes it easy to create a combined .PCG of my favorites?
Any one of the librarians will do this.

Regards.
Sharp.

Thanks, Sharp!

Which librarian would you recommend the most? I'm hesitant to install software on my DAW so am trying to avoid trial-and-error.

Synthoid, by "right here" are you referring to the forum? Or the tritools site?

Is there a well-organized download section (or topic) for them? I hunted around and couldn't find one.

Thanks! Some of those PCG collections look really cool!

When you test a new PCG collection, do you replace your entire E bank? Or is there a way to preview individual patches without overwriting an entire bank?

I'm looking forward to finding a Triton editor/librarian which lets me try a bunch of these collections and "save" my favorite patches so that I can populate my E bank with only the favorites.

Do you save the E bank with each song? I use Sonar, so I'm guessing I need to save a SYSX dump of the E bank with each Sonar project (just like I'm saving a SYSX dump of the SEQ data's IFX and MFX).

Yes, so back up anything that is there now. You can, however, load just one patch into the "E" bank if you like.

Only by loading one patch at a time......quite tedious. You can't preview patches from the floppy drive itself. It would be nice if there was some sort of buffer. Oh well. :(

So it sounds like the easiest procedure in the long run is to:

1) load a PCG into the E bank which is likely to have lots of "keepers"

2) decide which of the new patches is "deletable"

3) replace the "deletable" patches with individual patches from other PCGs

What would you recommend as a PCG with lots of "keepers" for someone interested in traditional/acoustic instruments (e.g., brass, piano, guitar) rather than of synth sounds?

I can't help much with recommending "traditional/acoustic instruments (e.g., brass, piano, guitar)" because I use mostly straight-synth sounds in my music.......sorry.

Your best bet would be to audition as many PCG's as you can. There's a lot of great free patches available.....enjoy!

Sorry, had to travel for a few days. Now I'm back and can focus on this stuff again!

When you audition PCGs, do you use a PC-based librarian program to select them and load them onto the Triton? Or do you put them on floppy and load them directly into the Triton?
