Need to Recreate 01/W "Steam" Sounding Prog/Multi

Post by Soniclight »

I got an 01/W back in 1993 then had to sell it. I did some analog tapes of stuff I did on it. Later got a 1995 Trinity (HDR but no other add ons) and I'm trying to re-create a program or combi I had made in the 01/W but am stumped.

Yes, I have downloaded the 01/W Trinity facsimile .PCG file available at this site but couldn't find anything close to it. I don't think that I had created my own sound way back then (it was my first workstation so was learning the ropes) -- but then maybe I did.

To describe the sound, one could say it was a pad + zylophone with a "steam" accent (slight delay to it). The Trinity has a couple of multisamples that are kind of close but not it (328 Swish Terra and 372 Industrial).

Maybe it was a default prog or combi in the 01/W or I created with two or more multisamples. It was 15 years ago, I just dunno.

---------------------------------------------------------------

So two Qs:

a) Does the TRI have the same multisamples of the older 01/W only more of them plus others that make it the Trinity?

b) Whatever the case, does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about, and if so, any suggestions on how to import or re-create the "steam"
sound?

Well the 01W PCG for Trinity is basically just the 01W settings for the programs,as Closely replicated as they can be on the Trinity Parmeters, first off you don't have the Waveshaping function on Trinty, and this was a prominent parameter for the 01W to create all Manner of weird and wonderful sounds on the 01W,and secondly the PCM data in the 01W is not the same as the Trinity so your stumped to create the sounds exact without that.

I have an 01W and also a Korg N5,these two synths share a lot of the same PCM data samples, yet because of the Waveshaping, its impossible to replicate certain sounds of the 01w on the N5,so as you can imagine the Trinity is even further away from the 01W than the N5.so it will not be possible t oeven semi replicate them authentically

The 01W PCG set for the Trinity will only replicate the settings to a certain degree, not exact because of different Engines, and PCM data differences I have loaded the PCG set into my Trinity, and its not really convincing one of the reasons why I will never part with My beloved 01W,is because it doesn't really emulate those sounds, and there are certain Pads I loe on the 01W that can't be replicated even with clever sampling facilities you can however substitute the PCM data from the 01W PCG with the internal sounds of the Trinity to simulate the Programs

Thank you very much for the detailed and alas stumped-I-stay reply :) At least I can let go of trying to duplicate the sound. I could maybe come up with some VST sample trigger solution in Cubase SX3, i.e. find some steam type sound and tack it on in post-production, so to speak.

Hi there, I have a Korg N364 here, with all the Programs converted from the 01/W and i looked up the Steam program (B99) - you'll be interested to know it uses the Stadium Multisound which i would guess there is something similar in the Trinity.

Specification for this Program:

1)
OSC Mode:SINGLE ASN:POLY HLD:OFF

OSC1 SOUND: 186 Stadium Level45 OCT 4'

2)
PITCH EG SL-01 AT83 AL+00 DT00 RT85 RL-99 PITCH.EG Vel Lev1=+00 Tim=+00

3)
VDF 1 Fc 99 EGint=09 AT00 AL+99 DT99 BP+20 ST19 SL+19 RT99 RL+99 COLOR1 Int=00 Vel=+00

VDF1 V.SENS EGint+30 EGtm00 AT0 DT0 ST0 RT0 KeyF#4 Mode=ALL

VDF1 K.TRK Int=-68 EGtm=00 AT0 DT+ ST0 RT0

4)
VDA1 EG AT00 AL99 DT82 BP09 ST08 SL07 RT59
VDA1 V.SENS Amp=+41 EGtm=12 AT+ DT0 ST0 RT0 Key F#4 Mode=ALL Amp=+00 EGtm=22
VDA1 K. TRK AT- DT+ ST+ RT0

5)
PITCH 1 MG TRI Frq60 Int27 Delay12 FadeIn24 K.Sync:OFF
PMG1 Freq K. TRK +07 A+J=0 Aft=02 JoyUP=03
VDF MG TRI Frq50 Int00 Int00 Delay00 OSC=BOTH K.Sync:OFF

6)
AFT CTRL P.Bend+00 FC+00 VDF.MG00 Amp+00 VDF.MG=00
BEND CTRL P.Bend+02 VDF+00

7)
StereoDly ON DRY:EFF=65:35 Src:S+J(-) I-05
D.Time L250 R260 FB-70 H.Dmp15 EQ.L+09dB H+00dB

Chorus 1 ON DRY:EFF=50:50 Src:S+J(-) I-06
D.Time=60ms TRI Mod99 M.SP0.36Hz EQ.L+04dB H+04dB

Placement Serial

These are in 01/W - X - N series terms, the Trinity uses mostly the same terms, but some are a little different, for example, page 5 on the 01/W says Pitch MG (Modulation Generator), on the Trinity, it's called a LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator), you just have to play around with all this and get your program to sound like you want it to.

If you PM me, I will sample the Multisample used by the older synths and email it to you.

Hey, I'd given up on this, so thanks for the time and effort to look into it. I'll p.m. you a quick follow up (I'd welcome the multisample as offered).

Happy New Year :)
