midi

Post by lebeau99 »

Why use midi? I have a tascam US 122 (digital audio/midi interface) so I can get the signal from Triton to Mac to Garageband already using the phono outputs. And I don't and won't use the mac to transmit to the TC. So are there any advantages to using midi for the kind of elementary recording I want to do at home?

MIDI doesn't send sounds to the recording software but signals... so when you have recorded a midi track, this is usefull in more ways:
1 you can send the track to every intrument to record it's sound (soft synth or hardware), so you play and record it once and you can chose the sound after without recording anymore
2 you can correct wrong notes and fix some other minor things just changing notes, signals (like the dynamics) and every CC (pitch bends etc etc) after you have recorded the piece
3 expecially when you're composing, it's better to have tons of midi recording than audio takes that fills too much space on the HD
4 you can change the tempo of the recording without affecting the sound.

I guess there are some other reasons to say midi is convenient over direct audio recording... but I think that these are the most important.

think I can control My D3200 with a digi 002 thru midi?

Post by PeppahGos »

was gonna get a behringer bcf 2000 to experiment with this, but I found a digi 002 for cheap.. wanna be able to use it for easier track and pan automation, also adding the 100 ml sliders.... Does any 1 know if this is possible?
