saving from keyboard to card to computer to burn a CD
I am a new user of a Korg TR88 workstation, and have managed to use the sequencer to record realtime stuff that I play on the keyboard. I seem to have managed to actually save something on to my card, and hence to my computer (using an SD card) and card reader. HOWEVER, I cannot access the music on my computer. Windows media Player is what I have. The message keeps coming back :file type unknown. I have actually saved it in all 3 forms PCG, KSC, SNG, and I have no idea what this means, but assume that my computer does not have what it needs to read (access) this kind of material!!! Help! Do I need to download something to make this possible? Anyone out there had similar problems? I have Windows XP.
Hi Eloise,
The .PCG/.SEQ files are specific for your synthesizer, that's why your PC can't play them. When you save on the TR, the files don't contain any actual sound, they only contain the information that the TR88 needs to play back the music (like which notes you played, and which sound programs you are using). Your computer doesn't know how to read this format, and it doesn't have the sound engine that is in your synth.
What you can do is save the sequencer information as a Standard midi file (.MID or .SMF), which a more general file format. You can find how to do this on page 153 of the Parameter Guide. However - it will not sound exactly the same as when you play it on the TR, since you are now playing back the same notes but on another instrument (the windows midi player).
If you want to record the exact sound coming out of your TR, you need to hook the audio out on your TR up to the input on your PC's soundcard. You can then use any recording program to record the audio, and later convert to MP3's, etc, if you desire.
