R3 - Filter range definition?

Post by Strauzzie »

Hi all -

I am considering purchasing an R3 and have a specific question. Is it possible to create a patch with a limited range for the filter cutoff knob? I.e. it would sweep between values 60-100 or something like that.

thanks in advance..

I'm surprised no one can answer this question!

I don't think so ... I don't recall seeing anything like this on the Radias or MS2000 I have; both closely related pieces.

PDF manual is here -> http://www.korg.com/service/downloadinfo.asp?DID=1314 if you want to have a rummage.

Hi Strauzzie,

I'm a Radias user and haven't tried the R3, but does the R3 have a mod-wheel or any assignable "soft knobs"? If so, use one of these as your filter knob.

First manually edit the filter cutoff to start at a certain value, like "60" in your example, then secondly you should be able to program the mod-wheel or soft-knob via the mod-matrix or similar to control the filter cutoff and set the intensity accordingly to carry out the difference (from 60 through to 100) over full-scale, so in your example you'd set the intensity to be "40".

Any competent synth worth their salt should be able to do this. But it may affect use of the mod-wheel/soft-knobs for other parameters.

(Of course in the real world values also usually go from 0-127, not 0-100.)

thanks for the response, Daz and Timo.

Timo to answer your question, the thing with the R3 is that it has 4 true control knobs, and they are all really "soft knobs" so to speak. From my manual reading, it doesn't appear that you can specify a range limit for the parameters they control though - which is discouraging.

I suppose the mod wheel thing is a possibility, i haven't looked into that.

Just took a look at a closeup photo of the R3 and it appears the soft-knobs are multi-use control interface knobs rather than freely assignable ones.

The R3 has a mod-wheel, though, which you should be able to use. However if you use it for filter duties, it may limit its use for controlling other parameters.
