Problem with ESX recalling pattern settings

Post by esxstar »

hi all--

I'm having a problem with my ESX-1 "ignoring" the values I've programmed into a pattern -- specifically, the filter parameters. Occasionally when I switch to a particular pattern, the ESX will substitute different filter settings, which radically changes the sound of the pattern.

Here's what happens in detail:

1) I create a pattern, which contains filter settings for a part (say, a guitar sample on Part 1).

2) I save this pattern, and then switch to a different pattern.

3) When I return to the first pattern, the filter settings for the guitar sample on part 1 are different than what I previously saved. For instance:

--> it will be functioning as though I selected a high-pass filter, even though I'd programmed a low-pass filter into the pattern (and even though low-pass filter light is on!). If I press the filter Type button 4 times (essentially re-select the low-pass filter), it works properly again.

--> it will change the value of the cutoff knob to "zero" even though I programmed it to a much higher value. Again, just touching it will fix it.

NOTE: The pattern is saved correctly: the "original value" indicator lights up correctly to the settings I chose.

This is happening in about 2% of my patterns-- not a huge problem but very scary, because the incorrect filter settings often makes the sample appear to be gone. Now I know that if a sample has disappeared, I can just fool around with the filter settings to make it come back, but that's not very comforting!

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Thanks--
Doug

is there modulation applied to the filter? because if you're modulating the cutoff with the lfo and it's synced sometimes different settings will produce this problem... which by the way drives me nuts.

Sometimes I apply modulation to the filter, but it doesn't matter-- the problem can occur whether there's modulation or not.
